As Karen puts it, "I love low ABV hops.” So, I made her a low ABV hoppy beer. One of Karen's favorite hoppy beers is Peeper Ale from Maine Beer Company. Using this American hoppy beer as inspiration, I brewed a very pale base and fermented it with an American ale strain and let it crash to almost clarity. We used Amarillo, Simcoe and Citra in the kettle and for the aggressive dry-hop.

Drier and paler than a traditional American pale ale, yet not as bitter as a session IPA, Karen affectionately named this a "Little IPA" for me. I also hired Oscar, our 4 year old son, to draw this little IPA label for his mom.

Dry, almost clear and very American, I hope you love this beer as much as Karen does.

Ordered a 4 pack online, old lady picked up while on a layover for work. Wasn't impressed that these were almost 3 months old already and not disclosed ahead of time. Surprise!

Pours a yellow color with pretty good albeit not perfect clarity, 1/3" white head. Ultimately she is a good looking beer. Dry hopping wasn't the strong point on this beer. A little bit of Citra peeking through, not much else. In fact I'm not even sure there was any dry hopping. But it doesn't smell bad, you just have to search for it. Oh I see the commercial tug job goes with aggressive dry hopping. Well 'if' that is true, it must fall off pretty hard pretty quickly.

Taste hits those normal range of what you call a pale ale stuff. Light toasted two row, maybe Munich and/or Pilsner malt, a bittering hop and some citric impressions of equal dimensions between flesh and rind. This is firmly in the pale ale, not ipa wheelhouse. Its a pretty nice west coast pale ale with some almost old school hops. I do see the Peeper comparisons. I dunno, I think I slightly enjoyed Peeper a little more. Might be equal all things being equal, but I think I got my Peeper a little fresher.

poured from a 16oz can into a willi becher pint glass. pours a semi-clear light copper with two fingers of firm white head. floral and piney hop aromas on the nose nestled against some maltiness. a very tame west coast IPA nose. a piney, bitter flavor profile without the alcohol heat. has a little bit of citrus to it. very nice, full mouthfeel on this one. probably it’s most redeeming quality. for what it is, it’s decent. packs a lot of the flavors of a west coast IPA or pale ale into a small, drinkable package.
