For the 2022 Barrel-Aged Ambiente release, we knew we wanted to use rye whiskey barrels exclusively. So, the brewers and I planned to brew and fill more rye barrels to become BA Ambiente and Rye BBT. We felt if we used Rye BBT as the base for BA Ambiente, the harmony of the rye barrel and Mexican chocolate flavors would be best for this beer.
So for this 2022 release, we blended Rye BBT 2022 and BA Ambiente 2022 at the same time, using our palates to find what would be best for the heart of both beers. The BA Ambiente blend consists of our Vibes and D3 recipes which were aged in Willett Family Estate 4 year and 5 year rye barrels for 13 to 44 months and StilL630 Rallypoint rye barrels for 29 months. This blend was slowly chosen after more than 2 days of pulling samples from our huge lot of imperial stouts resting in rye whiskey barrels. Once blended, we finished the base of this beer on Ghana cocoa nibs, Mexican vanilla beans, freshly ground cinnamon and ancho chiles.
We are excited to share this beer once again with you and show how the rye barrels are the perfect compliment for this blend of adjuncts in one of our blended barrel-aged stouts. We know that we will continue to focus on aging more in rye whiskey barrels just to continue this expression for this beer in the future.

Side-by-side with BA Abraxas 2022. More barrel influence here, showcasing heavier vanilla & spice. Dark fruit undertones; a bit more tannin and heat on the tail than BAA. Good, but I preferred B1. Also preferred BA Abraxas slightly in comparison.

poured from a 750mL bottle into a SP BBT 21 light bulb snifter. pours an inky black with minimal mocha brown foam. chocolate, whiskey, cinnamon all in the nose. as it warms the rye whiskey barrels make their presence known. taste is big chocolate, dry cinnamon and oak, slightly spicy pepper and even slighter vanilla. as this warms, the peppers become a bit more prominent. it has an extremely full mouthfeel with a lower level of carbonation. a good barrel-aged mexican chocolate imperial stout but it has a pretty spicy pepper influence and an even drier cinnamon effect to it.
