Ok. I think I get it. Let's crank out a beer concept and attach a funny name to it. And then, you are a member of the Mob. Then, the brewmaster makes a few enhancements to a related recipe. And over time, 459 recipes get made (or at least they are posted on their website.) Cool. Fun. Neat labels, too. From this Milwaukee brew shop, I found two Mob recipes bottled. I'm 90 miles away on the same lake, down here in Chicago.) I guess water (and beer) is still how progress spreads.
Booze Cruise is the brain-child of Chris Krekling of Germantown, Wisconsin. Good for him. I hope he had fun.
Unfortunately, it is not easy to make a saison that lasts the tests of time. And while Booze Cruise may be a fun experiential exercise, I'm not calling it a good saison. (And if others review it, don't be surprised if they call it a Belgian IPA.) Regardless of what you call it, Booze Cruise hurts itself by calling itself Belgian. Belgians have yeasts that take decades of experience to make... and it shows.
Booze Cruise Looks sort of confused... and so does the protein; not much liveliness or swirls. Smells improve... I get the pineapple and probably mango. Tastes are the same initially, then the hops come in too strong and make the ale harder to drink. The finish suffers also... dry without much purpose. Also, saisons go with food and good ones make food better. Not so with my pesto. And not so with Booze Cruise; flashing a label with revelers in a boat.
I don't mean to pan the concept. The mob votes on the recipe they want every month and the brewer makes it. This is a different marketing strategy and sets MobCraft apart in a crowded market. For that, I give this a ton of Overall points.
