Really surprised here. This is fantastic and quite complex. There aren't nearly enough CDAs, but I hope this one comes around more often. It's a sometimes beer, but a good one.

Nov 2016 release. First time ever having this, so I'm not sure if the recipe has changed from the original, but this exceeded my expectations. Soft NE IPA undertones with a slight roastiness to darken it up. Nose is tropical mixed with roast, flavor follows suit. Both flavors are balanced well, with neither dominating the other. Def grab this if you dig black IPAs, though I don't think this is hitting wide distribution. I should have gotten more than one six pack.

Poured from a pint can into an imperial pint glass. Beer store employee said they just got it in today, so I assume it's super fresh. Generic silver can with a sticker on the side. Love it!

A - Enters the glass black with a tan head. Edges are a bit translucent when held up to the light. An inch of head that sticks around for a bit.

S- Some bright citrus notes from the get-go. I'm getting lemon, tangerine, mango, pine. Then there's the roasty notes, nicely intergrated into the aroma. Over-roasted coffee, toffee, chocolate.

T - Nicely balanced. The hops are bright and present while sitting nicely on top of the roasty malt flavors. Really drinkable. This is expected as the ABV is just a mere 5.8%. Lemon, pine, tangerine, blood orange, pine, dark chocolate, roasty coffee. A bit of grassiness towards the back end that is a bit unexpected, not sure if i dig. Loads of chocolate and coffee in the middle which are great. Nice lingering finish.

M - Medium body, smooth, medium to medium-low carbonation. Carbonation level works great with this beer.

O - A really great, drinkable Black IPA from my hometown brewery. Tastes fresh and the hop presence is great for a 5.8% brew. Went down fast and left me reaching for another. Will buy again.
