Fairly dry, and moderately sour. No off flavors from the kale...lol! This brew is a winner that I'll revisit for sure.

12 oz. Can
Canned On: 07/20/18
Poured into a Trilium glass a pretty nice hazy pale yellow color, pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy/quick/fizzy one-finger white head, which also leaves some minimal sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, yeasty, tart, with a pretty nice touch of kale, cucumber, mint, some funk. The taste is pretty nice, malty, yeasty, with a pretty nice touch of kale, cucumber, mint, tart, with some funkyness. Medium body, ABV hidden very well, nice dry/bitter finish. Overall, a tasty brew.

In the saga of "what's new is old again", the beery masterminds at Odd 13 devises an old world Berliner type beer but string it together with new hops, vegetables and spice for a taste that's as refreshing as it is nutritious. You're basically drinking a salad.
Pale gold and modestly hazy, the beer crowns with white strands of sea foam but with a juicy perfume of melon, herbs, citrus and a light pungency of white wine and cork. Its taste is soft and bready with glimmers of sourdough and powdered sugar teasing the early palate.
As the taste rolls across the middle palate, the fruits of the labor begin to blossom. Green with cucumber, honeydew and peppermint, a curious and appetizing taste of herbs carry and basil and cilantro floral fare. The beer's underling sourness carries a lime, apple and white grape medley into its finish. Moderately hoppy for berlinerweiss, the beer's sprucy and grassy finish is bright and peppery. A juicy aura over the session provides a refreshing and oddly satisfying vegetative stance.
Light, crisp and clean, the beer's medium body has it feeling more gose-like on the palate than that of the often drier and more sour berlinerweiss. Hints of gin, margarita and mojito simmer while the beer's tangy bitterness trails into a soft and fleeting after palate of peppermint and burlap.

Pour is pale golden yellow with lots of bubbly white head. Nose is sweet, tons of golden fruit, fair bit of grain, hops are oily in the nose. Flavor isn't bad, cleaner golden fruits, nose was a bit more sugary, lots of cracker/grain, semi dry finish with an assertive carb. Gets almost a jolly rancher taste, the veggies don't really come in play, hint of sourness.

Surprisingly good sour, because I was getting more sour and I like the mild contribution of cucumber and kale. Almost no mint. Good drinkability, nay very good.

golly this is weird, not a beer i would buy again, but that said, its as intriguing and challenging and pushes the whole game forward, even if its a direction i dont always love, its important and i respect it. i juice a lot of veggies at home, and kale is always a weird one, like a peppery overly bitter spinach that sits weird in the gut in juice form. i think it comes though here very authentically, but i dont really care for it. the cucumber is behind both kale and the sourness, which is gripping in its length and acidity. as a vegetable, the cucumber is barely there, but i could see it adding some refreshing element. the only problem there is that the beer is also really sweet too, it lingers too long and falls apart at the end and as it warms up. if it just was dried out more, i think the beer would be radically improved. has an almost jolly rancher artificiality to it. as a saison type base, there just too much going on for that to stand out or even be relevant. the mint comes on late, interesting but mild and muddled with the other additives. might as well be a random wheat beer at its heart. i do like the idea, and i like the fortitude to release it, and i like that its so creative, but i just dont really care to drink another one. curious to see what others think. a love it or hate it beer i would imagine.
edit: i liked this better the second time around, a cleaner and mellow sourness, more of the mint uplifting it, less of the kale bitterness. i could even drink a few pints of this. unexpectedly good now, they have this dialed in! raising a few scores now.
