Cloudy, light yellow body with a thick, soapy, white head; ragged globs of foam along the glass. Strong citrus hop aroma; limes and lemon primarily; pine resin; zesty. Bready, spicy (more like a chili and black pepper with citrus quality than anything rye-like) flavor; strong bitterness lingering throughout. Medium body; smooth with somewhat watery quality; dry and husky.
The beer looks much like a hefeweizen with its cloudiness and color but the flavor definitely leans towards an APA styling. There is no real rye quality that's discernible, and that is where the problem (marketing?) comes up short. Where is the rye? Juicy, citrus flavor qualities abound and the hop bitterness is bold, even biting. But nothing really hits the smell or taste senses with a rye spiciness. If you're expecting some bold rye experience here, it won't be found.

12/22/16 impressions from a can:
Rye's signature spiciness doesn't come through at all. Has a pale malt base and a messy hop profile with some floral and vaguely fruity notes bouncing around. I love Mandarina Bavaria, but it's poorly utilized here, as is Citra. I'm not sure what went wrong with the hop profile; their hop selection seemed on point.
Drinkable and enjoyable fare from a brewery that I've had far better from. I wouldn't buy it again, but I don't regret picking up a sixer once.

Drinkable but dry.

12/29/16 impressions:
APPEARANCE: Slightly hazy body indicates a lack of filtration. Head is off-white but thin and weak.
AROMA: Floral but muted. Aromatic intensity is low.
TASTE: Floral and grassy, with a thick pale malt backbone and some boozy pineapple. Agave-like booziness.
TEXTURE: Smooth, wet, overly thick, light to medium-bodied, overcarbonated.
OVERALL: A mediocre pale ale with none of rye's signature spiciness. Far from Odd13's finest work. Not a beer I'd recommend to friends.

12 oz can. Pours dull apricot color, two finger white head lasts, coating lace. Nice citrusy aroma. Citrusy taste as well, more grapefruit than anything, very little cracker malt sweetness. Rye spice is there but subtle. Thin to medium soft feel. Dry finish. Very tasty brew, crushable.

Samurye Warrior is the best new Odd13 release I've had in quite a while. Maybe since regular Hop Wizard. Worth a sixer for sure! I hope they brew this more often.

L: Very hazy light yellow grapefruit juice color with a large creamy white head and nice sheets of lacing around the glass.
S: Sweet grapefruit juice and grapefruit rind, lots of orange and other citrus fruit. Some lemon and a toasted malt backbone.
T: Sweet grapefruit and some bitter grapefruit rind, lots of other citrus fruit and some tropical fruit. A toasted malt backbone. Pretty hoppy for a pale ale. A little spiciness from the rye.
F: Medium body and very creamy mouthfeel.
O: Pretty hoppy for a pale ale, but a really nice juicy tropical and citrus beer.
