341 mL bottle from a 4-pack picked up at The Beer Store. Bottled December 30th 2015 and served well chilled.

Pours a bright crystal clear golden yellow color, capped off with one finger of foamy white head. It fades away steadily over the next 90 seconds or so, soon being reduced to a thin, frothy cap and collar. Not much lacing. The aroma is comparable to most cheap domestic lagers, with a corny, cereal grain smell and some grainy pale malt sweetness. Hints of straw and Corn Pops.

Unobjectionable, at least if your standards are as low as mine. Grainy pale malt sweetness makes up 90 percent of the flavour profile, though there is a little bit of a corn flake vibe to it. Kind of a dirty, weedy hop note on the back end with a mildly sweet aftertaste. Light in body, with slightly weak carbonation for a pale lager. Still fairly crisp and refreshing, and not bad when served cold.

Final Grade: 2.96, a borderline C grade. Cool Beer is far from a newcomer to the Ontario beer market, but seems to be more of a GTA-centred phenomenon than anything. I live nowhere near Toronto, which made it fairly easy to skip this one on the few occasions where I did see it previously. At 6 dollars for 4 bottles, it's about as good as you'd expect - marginally better than your typical macro, but well behind most true craft beers. Easy to beat, except on price point.

Look: this is where the beer falls short. A little too clear for my liking, and looks exactly like a macro. Minimal head that fades fast.

Smell: smells like a typical lager. There are some hints of honey, and overall smells quite pleasant compared to macros in Canada like Coors light, Molson, Sleeman etc.

Taste: to me, this tastes outstanding for what it is. Lagers will never give you a bold taste, but I don't want a bold taste. I want a nice crisp refreshing drink that goes down easy and has a nice aftertaste. This one provides all that, and without the chemicals.

Feel: slightly watery and decent carbonation. Easily chuggable and light feel to it.

Overall: i am only 23 and am just making my foray into craft beers, but for a guy coming from Coors and Molson, this was a breath of fresh air. Because they do little marketing and only offer three styles, they are able to only charge $33 for a 24 right now, and at that price I will continually buy this beer and support this Toronto brewery. A little light for a 5%er, but it goes down easy and is sure to be an upgrade over any other macro.

This beer pours a big head of white froth which recedes with a thin film and light lacing. Colour is really pale, a sort of bright yellow-gold.

Nose is of malt, smells a bit skunked. Also a fair bit of fruit influence.

The taste is hard to get my head around. It is at the same time sour, bitter and slightly fruity, with malt also. I'd say it might have more flavour intensity than the run of the mill macro, but not making it a whole lot better.
Mouthfeel is quite watery, then the carbonation kicks in to give a bit of bite on the tongue.

Decidedly average. Mouthfeel and taste can be slightly offensive. Drinkable but uninspiring.

What's going on here? I had a glass of this at a local bar just to try it and I was not impressed. Not that I was planning of being blown away, but it was major skunk, and the badtender said it was "fresh". Plus, the advertising with all that " A city this cool has to have a cool beer". Darn. This stuff was like carbonated alcohol water, with some skunk for an added bonus. No thanks.

Picked from the LCBO singles bin to give it a try. Yellow-orange with a white half-finger head that diminishes quickly leaving a wispy, cloudy centre and a ring. Large bubbles - very large - always make me think of un-natural carbonation added. Initial fizz slowed soon enough.

Smell of corn adjuncts and taste is a bit off. Some bitterness, mostly lemony taste. A bit metallic, possibly copper, maybe iron. Aftertaste is earthy. Not a lot of redeeming qualities to this beer, I likely would not buy this again, regardless of price.

This is another cheap beer I've had recently. Cool pours out a nice golden yellow color, with vigorous carbonation, and a nice half inch head that sticks around, then recedes into a ring of lace, that sticks the whole way down. Smells like an average macro, minus the adjuncts and the metallic smell, with a bit of hops. This lager (this is no pilsner) goes down smooth, with moderate hop bitterness, finishes crisp and clean, quite crisp acctually and no offensive off flavors. Mouthfeel is full, carbonated, and velvety smooth, very pleasing. This one drinks very well, when its cold it goes down like velvet, and it is quite refreshing. This is one of the better cheap beers I've had, I definatly put this one in the top 5 best cheap beers I've ever had.

Pours a pale yellow colour, decent head that lasts. Smells of malt, hay, and some citrus, but also smells much like a macro. Taste is very good, hay, citrus, sweet and the perfect balance of hops and malt, very good on a hot day. Very drinkable, for the price this beer is a bargain, beats any macro-brew, I paid $26 for a 2-4, it doesn't get much better than that. Btw Beeradvocate should have a "value" rating among the rest, this would be a 5.

This is the bottled version (tried it on-tap recently) BB JUN 27 07 (on outside of the box)

A- pretty good. Golden yellow color. Nice big head that sticks and laces.

S- Grains, some floral hops notes (just barely), slightly metallic. Nice actually. Smells very fresh.

T- fresh, clean, some grains, malt sweetness is countered with nice bitter/floral hop finish making for pretty good balance. Not bad. Much better than what i remembered.

M- very clean, fresh, carbonation is on the low side of moderate.

D- very drinkable, great tasting all-natural buck-a-beer.

Overall i think they changed the formulation or something because this is much better than what i remember, and at $24 bucks a case? Not only is this beer cheap, its of good quality!>Thats hard to find in an ever growing "buck-a-beer" segment. Not as good as this brewery's other offering>Millenium Buzz Lager, but still a very good beer at an outstanding price. Give it a shot for sure.

Picked up a 24 of this the other day as i noticed the price has gone down to $26.40 a case (to the Buck-A-Beer Category) and I thought I'd give it a shot since I was getting bored of "Honey Lagers"

This came out very yellow with a fizzy somewhat puffy white head leaving very slight lacing on the glass, something most bargain beers lack. Smell is clean, some faint hops there, not too bad. Taste is much better than I expected from a beer from this price bracket, subtle hops and some barley malt in the aftertaste, I don't taste any nasty adjuncts that are specific to most macro lagers, and no metallic "Twang". It goes down pretty smooth and is still pretty drinkable as it warms.

Overall i found this to be fairly refreshing. I wasn't expecting much, What I got was a reasonably decent lager for an unbeatable price. And that alone is reason enough to get this one again.

Pours pale gold with a small shortlived head and intermittent lacing. The aroma has lots of cracker malt flavors and some herbal noble hops. The taste is less interesting than the nose, with less hop character and a distinct honey flavor. Its sweet but palatable. The mouthfeel is light and highly carbonated. The finish is lacking in bitterness for the style, just some light malt sweetness and whispers of hops.

An uninteresting pilsner. It doesnt have any horrid vegetal or off flavors, it just lacks hops and is a little watery.

A - Clear straw. Puny head.

S - Very sweet, candy-like aromas. Some floral notes as well. Gets a bit boozy as it warms up a bit. A boozy 4.5%.... jeez

T - Slightly tart up front. Slightly bitter in the finish. A bit of sweetness overall. That's it. Boring.

M - Fizzy, light.

D - Cliche as it may be. Very drinkable "just like water". Singularly uninspiring.

Edit: Get worse and worse as it warms. It's gone from being blah to yuck. Down the the drain it goes.

New on the shelves around here, from a relatively obscure brewery out East that I've never heard peep of. Cool beer? Sigh...

Pours out with a great thick creamy white head, but the retention doesn't last a minute. The rest is a pale clear yellow lager, pretty blah really. Deep bready aroma of malt on the nose, although some sour off-smells make their way to the surface as well. Or are those the hops? No, I get a seperate faint grassy note that peeps out as well.

The first sip is okay, a bit of that bready malt, but every subsequent sip gets more and more sour from the grains, or some sort of cheaping out in the ingredients. The aftertaste goes a bit sweet though. The mouthfeel has a decent body to it, but the carbonation is a little too eager, providing more in the way of sandpaper pinpricks across the tongue rather than complimenting the texture of the beer.

For the price it's no better than any of the other bland and off-tasting macro lagers on the market, and for what it is is still barely holds a torch amongst their ranks as well. Forget cool, drink this stuff ice cold to mask it.

Bought a six of these when I picked up a 24 of their better hemp red lager (Buzz) of difference here!!! This pilsner was a light pale straw..smallish head...almost no nose and watery...very much like 99% of the mega brewer's watery discount brand crap, Disappointed. Although this beer is all malt with no chemicals or adjuncts the malt is so weak and flavor so indistinct, it can only be classed as another insipid lager entry in the discount brand market. I like their Buzz lager but this stuff is bland city.

On-tap at Captain Murphy's in Niagara Falls, Ontario.

Clear yellow in color. Lots of fizz with lots of white head. Minimal lacing once the head dies away. Aromas are clean and crisp. Minute wisps of hops in the nose. Flavor is laced with corn and subtley sweet malt. Dry and short-lived aftertaste that is on the metallic side. Mouthfeel is on the thin side. Drinkable, but not memorable.

I live in Toronto, about half an hour drive from the Cool Brewery, so whenever we have a get together we drive to the brewery to buy a keg direct, as it costs about half of what a keg of Molson costs at the beer store.
I really enjoy this beer. It's not the most flavourful but I definitely had no problem throwing back many liters of it. It has a very clean taste, very refreshing and a nice finish to it. Cool Lager is all natural with no preservatives, and thats how it tastes. Looks wise its a typical lager colour, light amber and very clear. I'll have to try it again, because I was quite intoxicated so am reviewing on hazy memories. But I do recommend this beer, and I will definately get it again. It scores even more points for being economically friendly, as a 60 liter keg (15 gallons) from the brewery costs only $125 in canadian funds.

Macro style lager. Moderate head that settles to a heavy ring, gives up reasonable lace. Clear golden yellow.

Faint whiff of hops for a nose. Taste is of corn, some malt. Very doughy flavour. Quite a 'heavy' feeling beer to drink. Reminds me of Labatt's Blue but much more bread-like.

Nothing special here. Borders on onerous to drink because of its doughy heftiness.
