It is a rainy beginning to Labor Day 2019 here in southcentral-PA, but it matters little to me since I have nothing planned except bar trivia tonight. In the interim, I am clearing out some more of The CANQuest (tm)'s backlog.
From the CAN: "Brewed by the good folks at Wiseacre Brewing Company in Memphis, Tennessee".
Their tagline always puts me in mind of the title of Jerry Femina's memoir about Madison Avenue, the basis for "Mad Men", entitled "From Those Wonderful Folks Who Brought You Pearl Harbor". 8=)
After a couple/few days of nothing but draft beers, I know - tough life, right?, it was time for a Crack! & Glug. I beCAN with a slow, steady C-Line Glug, but when a pseudo-cascade occurred, I let it free-flow acCANdingly. I wound up with just under two fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, deep-tan/light-brown head with decent retention, leaving behind loads of lacing. Color was Dark Brown to Very Dark Brown (SRM = > 27, < 34) with NE-quality clarity & garnet highlights. Ooh. Nose held a roasty maltiness, CANbining dark chocolate with coffee. Mmm. Mouthfeel was surprisingly thick, full & creamy, like a dollop had been scooped into my mouth & onto my tongue. The taste was more towards bittersweet/Baker's chocolate than coffee, although it had a pronounced roastiness & its hop presence was likewise bitter & noticeable. Mmm. This was definitely an AmeriCAN Brown Ale since there was nothing sweet about it. I CAN get behind this sort of thing! Finish was dry, roasty, bitter & now, I was starting to think of coffee … YMMV.

Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a very dark brown color with a 1 inch head. Smell is nutty, bready malts. Taste is the same as the aroma, hops are present, a touch of coffee as well. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a quality beer.

Definitely an AMERICAN brown ale. Very hoppy, but the malt really balances it out well.

Pours an effervescent hazel color with 3+ fingers of rocky tan head. Tons of lacing & good head retention
S: Toasty & nutty
T: Toastyness, nuttiness & dryness up front. Toastyness, some brown sugar, woody hops & dryness as this warms. Finishes dry & toasty, slight herbal & woody hop finish
MF: Medium body, fairly firm carbonation
Drinks easy, a very nice brown

Appearance: Dark brown with light gold highlights, decent cap and lacing, attractive color for a style not noted for attractive color.
Aroma: Brown roasted malt hinting toward coffee, some hops in the background.
Taste: Much better than the aroma. Solid ale like structure of malt almost forward but quickly eclipsed by roasted malt bitterness. Don't know where they're going here, something to stand up to the American hops perhaps. I was about to say they missed the mark when the finish kicked in revealing underlying layers of malt and dark fruit flavors. Darn, if only the beer tasted like that all the way through this could be a standout. As is it's just another American style brown ale with enough over roasted malt/coffeeish touches to mar what might have been an outstanding flavor. A bit of lingering hop bitterness in the aftertaste.
Texture: Good, it's no lightweight but won't sink the ship either.
Overall: Ok, one man's opinion, worth every cent you paid, if they cut back the burnt malt some, the hops a little, enhanced those underlying flavors a bit more then, yes.
