so they take a house sparking ale that they call neat, and add organic heirloom tomato juice to it from a nearby farm. when i was there, it was a yellow varietal, and they just blend it right there as they pour the beer. you have to like tomatoes, thats for sure, but if you do, this is the essence of summer. i do regret not trying the base beer on its own first, but i had to get right into this puppy, never seen such a thing. the tomato sort of kills the head and makes the beer look thick and pulpy, but this isnt about the visuals. the aroma and flavor are that of fresh split tomatoes at the peak of their ripeness, what a treat, and what a great idea to blend this into a pale beer. the beer aspect is there through the tomato, lightly malty, medium bodied, light citrus hopping, and a cleanness to it, but this really is all about the tomato, juicy, earthy, and impossibly fresh. the blend seems high too, like there is as much tomato juice as beer, but its nothing like a classic red beer, and has such a naturalness about it that its its own unique thing. a little celery salt or even chili pepper would take this to the next level, but this is amazing, the essence of summer. the beer serves almost to enhance the fruit, like salt might on a slice of a tomato. so weird, but so good. hardly beer at this concentration, but unforgettable!
