i had way higher hopes for this one after seeing it on tap next to the number 4. i expected more maturity despite the lesser portion of the older beer in the blend, but it tastes young to me, not as developed on the wild side as it could be, and somewhat sweet compared to other, better sours i have had from these guys. i get some wood, white winey in the front and a little sharper with the acidity in the back, plenty of fresh green apple tartness too, and a little citrus. there is a maltiness to this that i like, some body too along with it, and its a good balance to the punchy sourness in here. what i am missing is the mature bretty funk, the big wood profile, and the rustic nature of older wood aged beer, i think this blend could be amended to include more of the older beer and yield a much more compelling final product. that said, everyone does these a little differently, and i appreciate this tasting quite a bit different than others i have had in this theme. drinkable as they go, but just not as interesting as i wanted it to be. i much prefered the number 4!

On tap, pours a clear straw gold. Dense white foam. Smell is classic saison with some tart fruity notes. Taste follows. Crisp light feel. Bit of sour bite that works well. Nice beer.

32oz. growler into a Surly teku. Shared by schen9303.
Nose is soapy with a touch of flower petals and lemon rind. Beer opens floral and spicy at the same time. Hints of hay, cobwebs, plastic, coriander and peppercorn all surrounding a spritzy tartness. Lemon rind and a lightly bitter seediness in the middle and end. Accented, spicy finish. Body is light with ample carbonation. Prickly and lively in the mouth and goes down foamy with an aggressive finish.
Pretty solid for the style. Looks awesome considering the serving style.

Had it on tap at Beer Shop NYC.
Pours a hazy straw and amber orange color. A moderate foam head dissapates, leaves a thin collar and eventually recedes completely.
The aroma starts of with a mild funkiness along with a sharp lemon sour tartness. However, in the background there lies a malt sweetness and citrus zest.
The taste is sharply tart and bone dry. Medium to light in body and crisp. I would find this drink refreshing in the summer.
I would consider this more of a wild ale rather than saison. I liked it, although I feel the sharp tartness tends to overwhelm other qualities.
