Schlaumeier (“smart aleck”) is a flavorful straw-colored Bavarian specialty wheat ale. Yeast-driven notes of banana and clove define this traditional delicacy.

Exceptional beer. An American Hefeweizen done just right.

Pours a hazy straw color with a wheat aroma. There are bananas in the taste but not as much as a German Hefe. A little clove and white pepper also. This is a solid example of an American brewed Hefeweizen.

L-Glowing light yellow color..zero head out of the can.

S-Light aroma...a bit lemony...some light mashed banana

T-Good impression of cloves along with some lemony notes...softer layer of banana

F-Medium bodied but seems a little thin/flat due to the carbonation.

O-Decent American made Hefe. I don't get the strong banana notes others note and I just had a very banana forward Hofbrauhaus hefe. I does have some lighter mashed banana impressions. Overall, pretty solid except the carbonation.

This one pours a semi hazy golden orange color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.

This smells pleasantly rindy and citrusy, with banana, clove and white pepper, and lemon.

This is one of the best American made hefeweizens that I’ve ever had, honestly not that far off from the standard bearer – Live Oak. It’s got the classic banana and clove restrained but tasty yeast character, with sweet wheatiness, a nice citrusy character – lemon peel, orange zest, and maybe even melon.

This is medium bodied, full and creamy, with a great drinkability.

Schilling can honestly do no wrong in my eyes.

Cloudy, yellow color and a nice, white head. Wheat malt, clove, and banana in the aroma, as expected. Classic, hefeweizen taste. Moderately sweet. Well done.

No date on can, into a pils glass.

Pours a murky yellow with creamy white foam, very attractive. Aroma is banana and some bubblegum, some sweetness and wheat as well. Flavor follows the nose well, heavy banana candy and bubblegum, sweet with a little bitterness and spice. Very bright and well balanced, not too sugary either. Feel is great and the best part, low bodied and easy drinking with a ton of carbonation which helps the spicy bitterness.

Overall very nice and the sort of hefeweizen I really enjoy.

L: Cloudy straw yellow, short lived white foamy head, very typical

S: Banana creamsicle, slight slight clove

T: Bubblegum and creamy banana which is wonderful to find in an American hefe, it is also hardly bitter which is another oddity for American brews, but unfortunately there's an off sour note I'm not fond of

F: Appropriately chewy body

O: It's fine for a hefe, borderline amazing for an American hefe. Better than Erdinger but still falls short against the heights of the style. Definitely worth a try!

Appearance: Cloudy, pale straw yellow. Fully white head with moderate retention.

Aroma: Clove with hint of banana and black pepper.

Flavor: Clove, banana, spicy/herbal. Notable but slight tartness. Restrained bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied. Low astringency. Drying.

Overall: Very approachable beer. Pours to a cloudy, pale yellow with a fluffy white head. Despite the initial promise, head retention fades quickly. Aroma leans clove with herbal hops. Flavor is spicy, herbal, and clove-like with low banana note. There is a notable tartness but does not seem to be a flaw. Mouthfeel is lighter and drying. This is a good representation of the style but lower key. It's refreshing and dry. The tartness may be distracting to some. Those that like a creamy, soft mouthfeel may prefer others.

Presented in a Maß tall mug. Displays clear yellow with a hazy and an inch-plus head of white. Plenty of retention and lacing for the duration. Bananas and clove in the nose. Medium bodied with a soft mouthfeel. Perfect balance of banana and clove on the palate with a kiss of malt and no hops. Finishes quick and fairly dry.
