Named after the 10th-century castle ruins in Düsseldorf, Kaiserpfalz is dark amber in color with an off white head, marked by toasted grain aromas, light hop character and dark fruit notes that intensify as the beer warms. Appropriate malt richness is present and the finish is dry, characterized by subtle bitterness and a spicy, modest herbal hop salutation at the end.

Draft at brewery. Dark brown, nearly clear, one finger fluffy off-white head. Sweet, malty, nutty aroma. Taste is toasty, malty, light bitterness. Really full feel.

Poured from a 16 oz can born on 03/25/22. Pours light brown with inital foam head; rapidly recedes. Sweet malt taste with light bread and cracker on the rear. Sweet nose and leaves a clean bright taste. Good.

Pours a slightly hazy amber/caramel, light 0.5" head that settles out quickly, light cap meaning, slight lacing. Nose is brown bread, raisin and dark fruit, grass, earth, noble hop, honey, metallic tang. Taste is a good expression of the nose - very light malty sweetness balanced by mildly bitter, lingering hop bitterness. Utterly clean and utterly drinkable. Feel is moderate with a nice bite of carb. A really nice sessionable alt.

Pours a foamy bubbly 1 finger off-white head with good retention, little lacing, clear darker amber to a little auburn color
Nose fair sweet malts, a little toasty, fair caramelized sweet notes, toasted reddish mild biscuity, some fruity esters, moderate herbal earthy hops, little potpourri like as well
Taste brings more sweet-like malts up front, but not sweet, some caramel and toffee notes, biscuity, toasted reddish malts, fair fruity esters again, some apple pear like notes and berry, generic fruits mostly, moderate hops again with earthy flavors, med bitterness turning towards a med high spicy earthy hop bitterness on the finish, good balance
Mouth is med bod, med frothy carb
Overall as expected from Schilling this is a great altbier, nice balance, good malts and hops, very enjoyable and one of the best altbiers I've had outside of Germany
