Technically a Hopfenweisse, a German-style hoppy wheat ale.

(16 oz can, no date/code; purchased cold single at Pinocchio's 2-3 weeks ago, reviewed shortly thereafter and this review is copied from those notes... poured into a Tubinger mug)

L: amply carbonated resulting in a huge head, crumbling all rocky... murky, pale amber liquid

S: fruit cereal hopping (Trix but pithy)... fermenting pancake dough... dried apple (cake)... decoction detectable

T: much the same on the palate, but with a pronounced pithy citrus accent to the spicy apple notes

F: fairly light bdoied... a little underlying barmy slime

O: good, unique... not like Schneider Hopfenweisse (2548)

Trying this one on a whim, have not had a Hopfenweisse in a long time. Poured from a 16 oz can (packaged 3/18/26) into a Krosno Direction pilsner glass.

Straw yellow color, moderate haze with a slight translucency, glows when held to light. There is a inch-plus head of rocky white head with good retention. Some lacing on the glass left as spots.

Lemon on the nose and a grassy hop note in the back. I'm not getting any banana or clove as is typical of a hefeweizen. Aroma is light but pleasant and refreshing.

Strong notes of lemon in the flavor. Mild hop character both in bitterness and flavor, although some grassy notes are there. There also is a slight tartness (not sour) at the beginning of the sip. Pleasant notes of lemon and a nice dryness on the finish.

Light-to-medium body. Very refreshing, seems appropriate for this beer.

Very enjoyable beer. Schilling calls this a Hopfenweisse, not a Hefeweizen as is entered here. So no surprise that it does not have the notes expected from a hefe - bubblegum, clove - but does have a bit of tartness that adds to it's refreshing character. This makes for a great summer beer and well worth checking out.

Deliciously drinkable. It strikes a great balance between the aromas and flavors of a hefeweizen, and the spicy, crisp experience of drinking some of its more hoppy, German stylistic siblings. An easy beer to drink a 4-pack of.
