Doodle Juice

On draught at the Beer Study in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Served in a plastic cup (as are all the draught beers there). It pours a translucent muddy orange color with a thin head and minimal lacing. Its nose features mellow strawberry, ripe melon, and floral hops. The taste is strawberry-forward but just as with the smell the strawberry taste is delicate, which is a positive. Strawberry is a strong flavor and too much of it detracts. The Belma and Huell Melon hops also add notes of overripe honeydew. As it warms I also notice some tart citrus - mostly grapefruit, which balances the initial sweetness. There is virtually no bitterness. The mouth feel is quite viscous - almost syrupy, and it seems more potent than its 8% ABV. Overall, in brewing Doodle Juice Fonta Flora used the Belma, Huell Melon, and Meridian hops well. The result is sweet and fruity. While I generally prefer less sweetness in a DIPA, I'm glad to have tried Doodle Juice.
