No hazy, no west coast, no british, there was once a time when the only IPA known to us was the American IPA. Built around the hop flavors of pine and orange peel, these were the first flavor of hops that most of us were introduced to.
Deeper in copper and amber than we commonly see today, Double Pine Zips rises with a creamy eggshell froth and a scent of caramel coated citrus and spruce. It's early taste is laced with caramel, toast and nuttiness to show a granola-like first impression. But the rapid growth of hops give a balance of lemon peel, orange peel and a hint of pineapple before trending bitter with pine resins, peppery grasses and spruce tips.
Medium bodied, more dry than malty and certainly more bitter than sweet, this beer is a Fonta Floral throwback to a taste that is rarely remembered.
