Batch #1 Bottled February 2025.
500ml bottle poured into a Treehouse Teku glass
Appearance: That looks beautiful! Dark opaque pink/red/blue typical of the best best berry beers. Decent, medium to light carbonation. Not a gusher, thankfully. Thin ring of white foam with a pink tint hugs the glass. Slight orange tint when held up to the light. Swirling does very little. Light legging, no real added or lasting carbonation activity. Certainly not a still beer. Maybe just right, or a tiny bit low. The second pour came out much darker. It is almost purple now, and as I was pouring it [at a more aggressive angle] it looked like a blood clot came out of the bottle. I thought it might be some very concentrated dregs, but there are some weird solids that poured out that I'm not quite sure what to make of. I'll try not to drink those.
Aroma: This is a little more aggressive on the sour aroma than I was expecting. This is either going to be delicious, or over the top in a bad way. I'm hopeful for the former. I'm not really getting any of the peach. I believe I'm picking up the berries though for sure. No off smells, just a very strong lactic acid tone. Second pour has a stronger berry aroma, still not getting the peach.
Taste: Yep, this. It's wonderful. It may prove to be a bit too aggressive by the time I get through the whole bottle, but that first sip was a slap in the face, a wake up call, a damn near jump scare. Again I am not really picking up the peaches at all. The blueberries though, they are there. This may have matured a little too long for most people, like an overripe Époisses. Would it be for everyone? Doubtful. Would it be for me? Yep. Glad that I didn't let this one age too long in the cellar after purchase. I feel like this is past the sweet spot, but still brings a big smile to my face. I just keep going back for more. It's really pretty fantastic.
Mouthfeel: Just right. Medium light viscosity. Light salivation, sort of just right. The second pour was even better. Lightly creamy.
Overall: To me, a well made fruited sour nearly can't be beat. I'm going to critique this, but make no mistake that I love this beer. The peaches are non-existent. Nothing in the aroma or taste would lead me to believe that they are even present. When holding the beer up to the light I suppose I can see a light orange/yellow , but would I have even noticed that if it were not in the description? As far as a sour blueberry, it's impressive. That being said, I do not think this would age well, and might be too much for the uninitiated. I'd love to try this right at bottle release to see how it compares. I think it would be even better. Would I drink this again? In a heartbeat. Would I buy it if I saw it? You bet. Would I give this to someone who has never had a sour? Probably not.
