Type: 375-ml. bottle
Glass: AleSmith Barrel-Aged Reserve snifter
From: Craft Beer Cellar in Fort Collins, Colo.
Price: $7.50
Purchased: March 24, 2017
Consumed: March 30, 2017
Reviewed as: American Double / Imperial Stout
Misc.: No BOD
Picked this up (along with the Cinnamon and Coconut versions and 25 other cans) at Craft Beer Cellar, a phenomenal beer shop in Fort Collins, Colo. Had heard about these beers and thought I might as well get all three. Decided to start with the coffee version.
Poured a pitch black color with two fingers of frothy tan head. Just a few bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. Excellent spotty lacing. Almost perfect foamy retention. (Sight - 4.50)
Lots of different flavors on the nose to start. Got hazelnut up front, smooth latté at the end. Also milk chocolate syrup, cocoa, vanilla, caramel, toffee, roasted nuts and almost a creamy peanut butter note. (Smell - 4.25)
Taste followed the nose almost to a ‘T.’ Got hazelnut, vanilla latté, caramel, toffee, milk chocolate and chocolate syrup. Could not taste the 11 pt. ABV at all. (Taste - 4.25)
Medium-to-full body. Creamy texture. Average-to-soft carbonation. Long, smooth finish. (Feel - 4.75)
This was very good. Almost felt more like an imperial milk stout or a porter. Probably slightly underrated. (Overall - 4.25)
