these guys continue to be one of the most underrated breweries in the state here. this is an awesome beer with an awesome label, and one of the better uses of coconut i have seen in one of these big stouts like this. its not overly lively from the bottle, but has a nice matte black color to it and does not appear overly dense. the aroma is awesome, sweet toasted coconut, but authentic and not sugary or prepackaged or anything, the genuine article, i really dig it, it sucks me in because its not that over the top suncreen coconut thats so common in these, and its not just raw, it has a real nutty aspect about it, perfect with the dark grains in here reminding me of my favorite coffee drink, which is quality espresso with a drop of creamy coconut milk. this has serious coffee undertones in the taste too, and a pretty good amount of bitterness from the dark barley, which actually sets up the coconut perfectly to be a lighter balancing flavor, and it does the job admirably. coconut lingers in the finish and i burp it up, but it never overpowers the base beer, which may lack a little body but they were smart to keep this from turning into syrup in terms of texture. its nicely balanced and i dont mind the lighter feel, especially since is has some reasonable carbonation. awesome finish, dark chocolate and coffee with the coconut, all very natural and unforced. its outstanding beer overall, and it has me keen to try the others in the series!

From a 375 ml bottle (no date) to a snifter. Reviewed from notes dated June 4, 2017.
A-The beer is not as dark as some stouts; it is more the color of cola...dark brown. The grey-tan head is short and fades immediately leaving no lacing. Ho hum.
S-One whiff reveals a ton of toasted coconut and almond flavors, which along with the subtle fudge notes from the beer pretty much make this beer an Almond Joy in liquid form. It is sweet, but not as cloying or sugary smelling as some adjunct imperial stouts. A slight fusel note is all that I can pick up in the way of alcohol despite the high ABV.
T-The taste is virtually identical to the smell. I'm picking up mild dark chocolate fudge-y notes, toasted coconut, almond, some marshmallow creme, and hints of bitter baker's chocolate. There is just a little heat and fusel note to indicate the high ABV. The beer is not cloying and the adjunct flavors fortunately don't have a strong artificial note, which often plagues coconut beers (even the beers that use real coconut).
M-The body is lighter than I would like, but the carbonation is soft and the beer is never cloying.
O-A very nice dessert stout from Wiley Roots. If you like coconut, I highly recommend this one.

Picked this up (along with the Coffee and Coconut versions and 25 other cans) at Craft Beer Cellar, a phenomenal beer shop in Fort Collins, Colo. Had heard about these beers and thought I might as well get all three. Had the coffee (4.32) and the cinnamon version (4.30) and loved both. Hoping for something just as good here.
Poured a pitch black color with two fingers of frothy tan head. A few bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. Outstanding foamy lacing. World-class retention. (Sight - 4.25)
Initially smelled an even mix of coconut and hazelnut, reminding me of Almond Joy. Also got milk chocolate syrup, vanilla, toasted coconut, caramel and toffee. Very nice. (Smell - 4.50)
Taste followed the nose. The first thing I thought was that this did not taste artificial. Got huge doses of coconut and hazelnut, working perfectly together. Also got Almond Joy, milky vanilla, milk chocolate, caramel and toffee. Just awesome. (Taste - 4.25)
Full body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, smooth, warming finish. (Feel - 4.75)
Wow. This was the best of the three I had. Would love to have a mix of the coffee, cinnamon and coconut with the base beer. Wowzers. (Overall - 4.25)
