a really weird sour with vanilla and passion fruit, unexpected and intensely flavored, unique but not all the way agreeable to me, despite its obvious quality, an odd recipe to say the least, my first beer from these guys too. its a little bit amber in color, a few shades darker than i expected this to look, but with a very creamy whitish head from the tap with excellent lace and retention. it smells like straight vanilla, totally over the top, natural at first, but its sweet and a little candy-like to me when i start drinking it. the passion fruit is way behind that, but its tartness is obvious with the bacterial acidity in here highlighting it, some milk sugar seems likely too as this has a sweetness and a richness to it. a baked malt complexion is a little big for a sour, but it gives this a warming and kind of cozy vibe. its odd that its sour, not too sour, but i think thats a strange choice and it might be better as a vanilla passion fruit amber ale or something without that acidity, its unneeded and makes this weird to drink on and weird in the belly. the execution is good, the souring is clean and not overbearing, but its just a bizarre beer. more vanilla than i need here too, but the flavors are certainly unique. a pastry type sour, what is the world coming to?!
