Kölsch, coming in at a crushable 4.8% abv, has zesty, sweet, and citrus notes from Mandarina hops. Crisp, light, and unbelievably refreshing.

Way too much hops.
My wife knows I love a good Kölsch. So she saw this and brought it home. Half caused a fight that I wasn't so into it.
But here's the thing – Kölsch is supposed to be light and delicate, to go down easy, with the malty notes hitting almost as an aftertaste, and the hops playing a distant supporting role.
This is more like an IPA kinda brewed in the altbier style or something. It's an ale. It's not filtered. They got the ABV right at 4.8%. But boy howdy did they ever hop the living heck out of it.
I'm not sure if they just used too much hops, or too spicy hops, or both. But the hops overpower everything, even the alcohol. It's to the point where if you told me I was drinking a 7% IPA, I'd believe you. And that's a shame. Because they're local and I want to love it – and they go through all the work of brewing this different way – but then they just take it from what should be a 20 IBU bitter beer to I would guess about 70 IBU, making it just way too flowery and bitter for such a light, crisp thing.

Canned 5/12/23. "Kaltes bier" stamped on the bottom of the can
I bought a 4 pack of this Kölsch when I stopped by Proc earlier this week. I mainly picked it up to have something to drink at a party and figured I'd save one to review. I had 3 cans at the party and honestly didn't really love it unfortunately. I'm hoping giving this a proper pour instead of drinking it from the can yields better results
Pours a cloudy straw yellow with 2 fingers of soapy off white head that slowly fades to a thin cap and leaves decent lacing
The nose here is actually pretty decent from the glass, just not quite there. I'm picking up on aromas of crackery malt, sweet honey, bubblegum, lemon zest, cereal grain, light earthy hops, and white grape
Things take a sharp turn in taste, where it sadly turns into a bland and somewhat astringent beer. On the front end of the sip I'm tasting crackery malt, lemon zest, white pepper, honey, and apple skin. The swallow brings notes of brrady malt, earthy hops, pear skin, sweet honey, light diacetyl, and an odd medicinal note like aspirin
A medium body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a slick beer. Finishes mostly dry but not in a refreshing way
It’s too bad that this one actually has a great appearance, because the rest of it is average at best and rough at worst. Oh well, they can’t all be winners

Really digging this one. Hits all the right notes. Pale gold with a bone white head. Nice lacing.
Big nose with lots of pale malt at first. Solid noble hop complement. Nice peppery bite.
Great taste with a big malty front. Seems like a bit of an American influenced hop profile. Lots of noble hops. Short clean dry finish with a tight bitterness.
Soft mouthfeel with an almost creamy carbonation. Crisp and quenching. Super drinkable and a great session beer on a 90 degree night.
An excellent kolsch with a flavor profile that makes for more and more glasses.
