Canned 8/29/22. “The god” stamped on the bottom of the can
Man, it’s certainly been a while since I’ve had anything from the Derivative series, this one being a new release. And it’s definitely been longer since I’ve had an Azacca hopped beer! I feel like it’s a hop variety that started to fade away a couple years ago, so it’s odd to see it in a single hop beer. Either way, let’s see what this hop is all about
Pours a cloudy pale yellow with 3 fingers of frothy off white head that slowly fades to a cap and leaves decent lacing
The nose gives off a ton of vibrant citrus and berries, but still retains a decent bitterness. I'm picking up on aromas of lemon zest, gooseberry, grassy hops, white grape, pale malt, tangerine zest, and light bread
It's quite similar in taste, the hops provide some rather unique fruity tones not usually expressed in the style. On the front end of the sip I'm tasting lemon juice, gooseberry, crackery malt, underripe cantaloupe, herbal hops, light honey, and red grapefruit. The swallow brings notes of gooseberry, tannic white wine, grassy hops, white pepper, pale malt, lemon zest, and light weed
A light medium body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a crisp and zesty beer. Finishes a tad watery but nothing that ruins it
This one is certainly unique, I dig it. I didn't expect this to be very good for a single hop beer with a rather obscure hop, but it's damn good

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
