Canned 2/21/23. “New ponies”
It’s been a minute since I’ve had anything in the Derivative series, and Motueka seems like a left field choice. It feels like an underutilized hop these days, so highlighting it in a single hop beer feels like an odd move. These are usually quite good though, so let’s just get into it
Pours a hazy light yellow with 3 fingers of soapy off white head that slowly fades to a cap and leaves decent lacing
It’s nice and bright in the nose, really citrus forward but still balanced. I’m picking up on aromas of lime zest, orange juice, gooseberry, crackery malt, peppery hops, white grape, and light grass
It’s not quite as expressive in taste, but I still quite like this. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting gooseberry, orange zest, bready malt, floral hops, lime zest, white pepper, and light weed. The swallow brings notes of white grape, gooseberry, lime zest, orange juice, peppery hops, light weed, papaya, and grass
A medium body pairs with gentle tingling carbonation, resulting in a crisp beer with a nice bite. Finishes dry with a touch of tartness that really boosts the drinkability
This one id really good. Motueka is surprisingly a good hop to use on its own. I might have to pick up some more
