From 07/30/14 notes. Had this on tap at Stag's Head in NYC, 16 oz pour into a pint glass.

a - Pours a hazy yellow-orange color with two inches of off white head and moderate to high carbonation evident.

s - Smells of smoke, pork, grains, yeast, spices, pepper, fruity malts, apples, citrus, and light brandy. Smoke is up front but not too dominating. Not bad, but not great.

t - Tastes of fruity malts, honey, light smoke, bready malts, grains, spice, yeast, and bananas. Less smoke than the nose but a tiny bit; taste is veyr good and much better than the nose in my opinion.

m - Medium body and moderate carbonation, pretty easy to drink.

o - Overall an interesting saison and glad the smoke isn't too strong , esp in the taste. I imagine this is basically what they were going for. Not something I'd like to have a lot but decent.

The beer comes in a bright hazy orange color.

The aroma is fruity, citrus, and Belgian yeast with spice.

The flavor follows with bitter grapefruit, with lots of pepper and herbal qualities. Then a medium bready sweetness. Not really much smoke qualities.

A very good saison.

This is a smoked saison from Other Half. I actually didn't taste a lot going on here--but the mouthfeel was very striking. Kind of inky/oily, but in a good way. Unusual for a beer but highly enjoyable and somehow quite drinkable. More like a gentle spirit than your typical carbonated beer. Flavor, again, is fairly subdued farmhouse flavors--a little yeasty, some fruit. Smokiness is not that discernable; I guess it came through more in the unusual mouthfeel for me.
