Collaboration with Suarez Family Brewery
We brewed Neighborhood Flock last July with sumac that Dan foraged on the way to the brewery, spelt and local buckwheat then fermented it in French oak barrels with brettanomyces and lactobacillus It has a soft acidity with bright citrus character from the sumac.

Poured a slightly hazy golden straw color with about a fingers worth of foamy head. The nose is a lot of lemon, some earthy notes, and some funk from the barrel aging. The flavor follows along the nose but the barrel comes out a little more. You get a tart lemon flavor as well. The feel is medium, very effervescent. This is a very well done collaboration. The barrel adds a nice touch as the lemon and earthiness round out everything. Hope they continue to make this beer and collaborate on more.

16.9oz bottle. Pours a hazy golden orange color with over an inch of fluffy white head. The beer smells very acidic with some citrus peel, oak, and cloves. Yeasty. The taste is lots of tart citrus. Lemon with some orange peel. Cloves, oak, some white wine notes, and yeast. Fruity with some pepper. Oaky finish. Tons of carbonation. Some funk. Not something I could drink often but it's an interesting beer I'm glad I got to try.

Picked this up a while back when Other Half release it, finally getting around to this tonight after a crazy week at work. All of the Other Half bottles lately have been great and this continued that trend as it was quite hard to sip it and pace myself through this! The yeast and sumac really put this over the top as the recessed alcohol and smooth flavors ensure that this would go down quite smoothly!
Loved the pour to this as the beer was bubbling out of the bottle as soon as I opened it. Nice, bubbly appearance to this to accompany the muted golden hue, and clumps of soapy lacing that were left on my pint glass as I worked my way through the liquid. Strong hints of the wood aging and yeasts that were used in the nose along with a blueberry-like juice in the taste , which combined to make this a clear winner. Lots or orange juice could also be found here with tons of carbonation, as this felt like a mimosa from a Sunday brunch. Juicy, slightly tart, and bright, this was a beer that begged to be enjoyed as the sumac lent itself to a brightness not normally found in Saison or Farmhouse Ales.
The alcohol was perfect as the malt that felt like white bread was allowed to shine through and give this brew the depth that it needed. While not a typical beer of this style, I enjoyed this from start to finish and how smooth it felt. Not like Other Haf's more typical offerings, this held up well with age and was a great example of what a Saison or Farmhouse Ale cold be with a bit of the edge and funk taken off of it. Fun stuff for a mild night such as this one in mid-September!

S: yeast, earth and bitter grapefruit
T: oak predominates a leave a citrus finish with moderate acidity (I expected it more sour)

Highly carbonated orange pour leaves a fizzy dissipating head. Aroma is decidely oaky with a hint of citrus. Flavor is tart and super fruity. Finishes dry and faintly sweet.
