Picked this up when it was released in bottles a little over a month back. We've had good weather for Stouts lately and this was fitting for the season since it was such a beast of a beer! Strong and sticky, the alcohol was present but even with that in mind, this didn't feel like 13% during my session!
Nice, dark pour to this reminiscent of brandy, with the same amount of syrupy consistency. A beautiful, mocha head topped this off and took quite a while to settle down. Not much lacing left on the side of my Teku glass but there were one one thin ring that went all the way around it and was quite firm for being thin.Vanilla, cinnamon, caramel, muted raspberry, and booze in the nose! Tons of the latter as the bourbon was stronger in the taste, with dark fruit, vanilla extract, and chocolate right behind it. This reminded me of the box of candies that come out during the holidays with various assorted chocolate treats as this was sweet, sticky, and fruity at the same time but all understated compared to the bourbon that ultimately defined this beer. Mild cinnamon and woody notes could be felt here but with so much going on, they were complementary more than anything else.
Plenty of stickiness here which was appropriate given the composition of this beer. This warmed me up quickly too though it never felt too strong, even as it warmed up. It almost seemed like this would be something that could make the transition from fall to winter, which would be appropriate given it's most recent release date. A faint raisin residue lingered as I savored this, as the low carbonation and slightly chalky body allowed the flavors to linger for a while. Another winner from Other Half and the first beer that I've had from Three Stars, though I'd give this 3 and a half out of 4 if this was rated on that scale! Solid stuff that suited the season perfectly!
