Subtle but complimentary adjuncts make this beer stand out. Rich but not overwhelming. Coconut and chocolate followed by hint of pecan.

I picked up a bottle of Double Drupe in a trade, thinking that I'd probably never have another chance at a Horus stout (collab though it may be) - I wasn't overly psyched about a non-barrel aged stout, but the adjuncts looked up my alley.
We've recently had about a foot of snow in MN, and I'm sick of cold and snow - so after digging out yet again, I decided I was owed a treat. This bottle was foremost in my fridge.
I was somewhat surprised by how thick Double Drupe pours - and even when cold, I could smell the nuts and coconut. This isn't typical of a cold stout - generally it takes a little warming up. Head was minimal, but carb is definitely present. I couldn't make myself wait, so I began tasting immediately. Coconut is very present - not forward, but even with the rich chocolate notes from the cacao nibs, the coconut is very pleasantly there. The pecans aren't all that obvious at first, but as the beer warms up, it becomes more and more nutty, and definitely saltier. That salt isn't my favorite, but it does add a bit of balance to the thick, syrupy chocolate.
Again, I'm shocked by how rich this beer is, being non-barrel aged - particularly given the ABV. I wonder how much sugar went in to this beer - only Dogfish Head does a non-aged beer that is so high in ABV.
I really liked this bottle. I traded a bit high for it, but I won't hold that against Double Drupe. No regrets - great beer.
