The folks of KCBC and Fifth Hammer have been in our world longer than Other Half has existed. Sam first met Zach from KCBC and Mary and Chris from Fifth Hammer when he moved to NYC in 2007 to run Greenpoint Beer Works. They were heavily involved with the NYC homebrew scene that spun off so many breweries in the early to mid 2010's. Both Chris and KCBC's other partner, Tony, also worked at Greenpoint because NYC was and still is a small brewing world. What is a Tmavé Pivo? It's a Czech version of a German Dunkel and I can't think of a better beer to brew with these 2 brewing friends.

16oz can from Half Time. Dark brown pour, clear, silky off-white head. Nutty, toasty aroma. Taste is burnt toast, nutty, mild sweetness and a light bitter bite. Creamy feel.

Pours a dark nut brown color. Excellent clarity, especially noticeable when held to the light. Thin, two finger off-white head forms on the beer, lingers a bit, then dissipates, but never completely. A thin layer of velvety foam remains on the beer at all times. Aroma has notes of bread and nutty malts and subtle spicy hops.
Taste follows the nose with notes of nutty malts, a hint of rye bread and notes of spicy hops. The malts in this leave a bit to be desired - it lacks the richness and depth of the best Czech dark lagers, but this is still very good and enjoyable. Feel is medium to fuller bodied for the style. Smooth, easy drinking. Dry finish.
Overall it's a nice CDL and one I am enjoying drinking.

This one pours a slightly muddy brown color, with a small white head, and lots of lacing.
This smells a bit too sweet for the style, with sweet breadiness, caramel, tea, and chocolate.
This isn’t all that bad, but it feels a bit sloppy style-wise, with too much sweetness for the style. I want a little bit of bready or hop bitterness to help balance out the unbalanced malt character here.
This is light bodied and very creamy, but a little bit watery on the finish. It’s quite drinkable, anyway.
Other Half can sometimes nail things outside of their comfort zone – IPAs and pastry stouts – but it’s not a guarantee, as this beer proves.
