An important day for Broccoli lovers like ourselves. 3/22/2025 is National Broccoli Lovers day, so whether you are a broccoli lover or a lover of broccoli, today is your day. To celebrate the dankness of the day we took some elements of our Broccoli recipe, like Simcoe and Mosaic Cryo, and added in some new fangled hops like Riwaka, HBC1019, Citra Incognito and Citra.

Observations after the entire contents of a pint can were emptied into a clear glass liter mug. First impression, too much starchy nearly stark white foam. Something that receded rather quickly, unevenly and unattractively. The color of the liquid is dull and hazy lemon-amber and it's not very appealing, neither. Its aroma isn't much more compelling. That's superficially sweet and the hoppiness present is one dimensionally citrus-like sharp. The mouthfeel is better than expected, but that's a low bar. But it's acceptable, despite not measuring up to the bitter bite of the hops and alcohol. There’s not enough body, nor taste here to carry an 8.5% ABV. Simcoe Hops are wonderfully flavorful and delightfully bitter, but they need a solid taste backbone (barley malt) to excell. That's what's missing here. The hop combination is excellent and its bite much appreciated by a hop-head. But, the body isn't full enough to carry their bite, nor the alcohol. At this level of hoppiness and alcohol, there has to be more than simple sweetness added to the overall from the starch base. That's where this falls short, although some sporadic glass lacing lingers.

Canned 3/16/2026
Appearance: Pours a completely hazy, light yellow color with a strong white head. (4.00)
Aroma: Aromas of orange, grapefruit, zest, white, grape, pineapple, lime with a light, tropical, grape and berries underneath. (4.00)
Flavor: Flavors of orange, grapefruit zest, white grape, bright pineapple. Tones of smooth tropical grape and berry underneath. Overall finishes, zesty, spritz and citrusy. Dry on the finish. (4.00)
Feel: Medium body, appropriate carbonation, finishes, zesty, clean, and relatively dry. (3.75)
Compared to Other Half National Broccoli Day 5/26: Pours identical. More grapefruit, white grape and pineapple zest. Less tropical tangerine, orange, peach, melon. Cleaner and drier.
Compared to Other Half Double Crushed Gems 5/26: Pours identical, milder aromas. More earthy stonefruit. Less tropical pineapple, fruit punch, peach, melon. Winner: Double Crushed Gems
Overall: National Broccoli Day. Lots of tangerine, tropical peach notes here. Tropical and leans sweet, but hides the alcohol well. Excellent, just not my most favorite hop flavors. (Rating: 3.98)

On tap at other half in DC, pours a hazy golden yellow with one finger of whitish head into a tulip glass, long lasting lacing evident. Aroma of tropical fruit and white grape with similar flavor notes. No hop burn and excellent soft mouthfeel. Excellent.
