Other Half Brewing "BA Betsubara"
$10 / 8 oz. on tap at the Philadelphia, PA location
Look: An opaque black body is capped by a short head of dark brown foam that drops shortly.
Smell: Oak, roastiness, and dark chocolate.
Taste: Rich with notes of chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, caramel, cherry, oak, fudge, almond, soft coconut, spiciness, and alcohol. It's massively chocolatey but the fruitiness comes forward in the mainly dry finish.
Feel: Absolutely full bodied and smooth.
Overall: Quite impressive!

Pours as black as ink with a small brown head that faded quickly and left minimal lacing. Smells of dark chocolate, molasses, soy sauce, vanilla, chocolate syrup, metallic notes, nutty accents and fudge. Tastes like it smells, with the addition of bourbon and its charred oak (plus the boozy heat) hitting first, followed by dark chocolate, molasses, vanilla, chocolate syrup, metallic notes, soy sauce, cocoa powder, nutty accents like chocolate covered almonds, coconut and fudge. The booze is present throughout the brew but not overpowering. I thought there'd be a lot more impact and flavor from the long barrel aging...it's really good, but not earth shattering.
