It is an age old question; what could possibly be better than cake? How about a beer inspired by one of the best cakes of all time - the German Chocolate? For this effort we infused our Imperial Milk Stout with cocoa nib, toasted coconut, and toasted pecan. Finally, the question has been answered - cake flavored beer. Why not?

Canned 01/11/21
Deep brown. Sandy head quickly retreats to a thin ring with a scattered patch of bubbled stragglers. Low retention with slight clumps of lacing.
Nose begins with a deep round caramel note that is less sweet and more burnt. A smooth coffee note carries a light roast. Finally a woody nuttiness peeks in.
Flavor is cocoa, caramel, a mild toasted coconut (no more coffee), and a very mild nuttiness.
Chewy enough for me, but not thick. No ABV warmth.
Overall, quite nice. Not quite the spitting image of German chocolate cake, but a pretty good liquid version.

Pours a very dark brown. There was some beautiful carbonation rising in the glass as I was pouring. There's a 2 finger light tan head. The head retention is very good. The head clings to the side of the glass as it dissipates.
The nose is fairly mild. There's a hint of chocolate here, and pecan. Very mild smelling.
Taste - Tons of chocolate, pecan and coconut. The coconut is more up front and the chocolate and pecan are on the backside.
The body is a bit thinner than I was expecting, but it's not watery at all. No alcohol burn at all.
Tasty imperial stout.

Aroma is coffee, chocolate and big roasted/slightly burnt malts. The flavor is roasted malts, chocolate/dark chocolate, coffee and and a long and big acidic/coconut finish.

I love it when a brewer delivers on his promises, and this one delivers! Poured cold from a 12-ounce can into a snifter. Deep brown body, with Dr. Pepper colored highlights and a thick long-lasting tan head that left a web of lacing as it settled. Big aromas and flavors of coconut up front, followed by sweet chocolate, toasted pecan, and a bit of char to round it out. Satisfying mouthfeel, just as I'd expect from an imperial stout. Also a tad boozy as it warms. The finish is surprisingly dry, with just a little sweetness a bit of char lingering on the palate. German chocolate cake was promised and German chocolate cake was delivered. They nailed the flavor profile on this. What more could you want?
