a really cool rye based lager with orange zest and black tea in it, another real creative and well executed beer from these guys, who have definitely become one of my favorite breweries in the state already! just a shade darker here than i thought it would be, maybe from the tea, more orange than yellow, with a decent little head from the tap. aroma is lots of citrus, orange and lemon, with a sweet honey note from the malt, less dry than expected for the style, but i kind of like how it extends the beer. i definitely get rye malt in nose and taste, dry and earthy and excellent with the citrus. the tea is a neat layer, kind of subtle at first but coming out more as it warms up, earthy as well and also a fine compliment to the rye. i think i wish for more lager yeast character on this, its like too clean or something, almost invisible where a little bit of european character would fit nicely. its a little fuller bodied than it needs to be with these summery flavors, and its not so well carbonated either, at least it cant hold its bubbles very long, so it does get a bit weighty to me, but the taste is killer. the additives are mellow, the rye is strong, and the beer is unique and delicious. creative and well executed.
