i think these guys do a dandelion beer every year now, which is awesome, and it has changed some. the one called bicycle picnic was a dandelion saison at one point, before becoming a kolsch, now they are back to farmhouse style under a new name, and the beer seems improved to me, changed a lot here from what i remember and not just on the lighter abv. the ferment is way more prominent in this, spicy and peppery, way cool with the naturally bitter dandelion aspect. there is some haze to this too, a little more hearty and rustic i think overall than it used to be, not even sure its the same concept really, maybe i shouldnt be comparing them in my mind. yellow tinted, really delicate head on top of a rather dense looking brew, good retention too. aroma here is yellow pollen, super intense floral character and to me easily recognizable as dandelion specifically, subtle vanilla, white pepper, and raw wheat in the mix, and the flavor is similar, more saison than it used to be, white wine and green pear esters, herbal green bitterness later, lemongrass, lily, and some botanical astringency that helps to dry it. its very tasty. and extremely original, i think even more dandelion than it was before. i dig this, i dig what it represents and its nice in the glass too. better this time on the ferment, not totally perfected, but distinctive and fun, definitely something not to miss while its around...
