From a 473ml can packaged on 16 Sep 2025. Poured into a pilsner glass. A big three finger off white head on a clear light gold. Excellent head retention. A thick layer sticks around to the end. Lots of foamy lacing.
Malts in the nose. Some spicy hops. The taste is biscuit and bread up front. a very mild bitter hop finish.
A light body and carbonation. Overall a solid European Pale Lager. True to the style an well worth a try.

Typical of the style. Grassy, some grain. Nothing special, but on the other hand not glaringly defective in any way. Better than your average macro of the same ilk. Yes, I am damning this with faint praise.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Aug 1 2017 and served well chilled. A flat of beer that just showed up on shelves last week has a canning date from six months ago? I would say that's unbelievable, except we're dealing with the LCBO here.
Pours cloudy straw-yellow, giving rise to about one centimetre of loose, bubbly white head that disintegrates in less than a minutes' time. A wide collar of foam is the only surviving feature of significance: there's not much in the way of lace to speak of, and the surface itself is only partially obscured by a thin film. Typical of the style, the aroma is mostly just bland, with notes of grassy hops and lemon zest overlapping with a grainy, lightly sweet pale malt backbone. Could be worse I suppose.
Yep - it's a pale lager, but it's a quality one. It tastes of grainy malts along with a mild, bread-like sweetness, with these two flavours comprising the vast bulk of the flavour profile. Light notes of grassy hay and spicy hops do come through towards the finish, providing a proper bitterness which helps counter the pale malt in time for an off-dry finish. Light in body, with moderate carbonation of appropriate intensity - not quite what I'd call crisp or prickly, but refreshing enough and ridiculously easy to toss back.
Final Grade: 3.55, a B grade. Whitewater's Legion Lager isn't an especially remarkable brew, but it's a decently made one that grew on me as I made my way through the glass. I submitted this as a Euro lager mostly because that's what it reminds me of - I guess APL would also have been acceptable, but to be honest this reminds me of a middle-to-top tier exported German lager, more so than anything else. In all fairness, the can is not exactly fresh, but this is the sort of beer that shouldn't fall off much - and I wouldn't say it's showing any major signs of age/oxidation, so that would seem to be a moot point anyhow. I'm not in a hurry to run out for more, but I'd consider grabbing a few in the future - after all, it's for a good cause.
