a crowd favorite and one of their original beers thats been around the longest, for how often i have beers in here i am surprised its taken me until now to review it. its a very well made session type scottish ale, malt forward but neither heavy or sweet, and with a nice contribution from the ale yeast, which is old worldy and flavorful and efficient in fermentation here, i thought this was rad. its cool when something decidedly untrendy like a scottish ale takes off a little bit somewhere, not a hazy ip or a sour or an adjunct stout? awesome. this has a nice copper red color and an off white rising foam head. it smells and tastes like rich kilned red malt, a little toffee and cola, and a touch of wet earth and even smoke for a second, layered flavor in a subtle way, and for the alcohol to be so low is a treat in this style, it allows me to have several of them without the usual heavy buzz i associate with a scottish ale. great with their pizzas if you dont want something hoppy, and a definite in house classic. it has stayed in the rotation here for a reason!

First beer I had at LowDown. I'm a sucker for a good malty beer.
This one pours chestnut brown with red tints. Nice off white head foams up and leaves nice lacing.
Malty aroma, sweet and hints of nut. Wet grass, earthy. Some subtle spices going on
Flavors are really nice. A bit loose, but good nonetheless. Malty and earthy. A hint of nutmeg (I think) or some other soft spice. Deep caramel and flashes of nuttiness.
Feels a tad thin and the flavors could pop more. But this is a darn good beer. Went well with the Havanah sammich
