an excellent saison, brewed with a very flavor saison yeast strain and szechuan peppercorns. i like the idea of adding the floral pungent szechuan, it works with the white wine elements of the yeast and the zesty tang thats there, citrusy and bright. a little color to this one through the haze, short of copper, but darker than just pale wheat. the head is nice too, an inch tall and lasting. the nose and taste are driven primarily by the yeast. not that that grain isnt flavorful, but its less wheaty than is common, cleaner, but also less intense. it seems like a french strain, a little sharp and tangy, but also with some of the fruity belgian elements. strong but also very drinkable, the alcohol can be felt but not tasted, and i like the soft feel of it punctuated by lively carbonation. the szechuan pepper is subtle in the flavor, more obvious in the nose, but adds a neat element uncommon in the style and highly compatible with the yeast they used in this one. maybe my favorite beer i have had from lowdown so far, real well done, and a great compliment to their awesome pizzas!
