Pint can poured into a tulip at 48f.
Pours a fragile light straw golden yellow, with a 3 finger fluffy head that slowly recedes, leaving some spots that slink down the glass. Collar persists throughout.
Nose is Saison in every sense of the word. Yeasty notes of clove and bubblegum, fruity esters, green banana, and also some chamomile flower, and some other floral notes. A faint dash of vague hops.
Palate is Saison spice, yeast, definite chamomile, some unsweetened waxy honey, and some bittering hops near the end. Definitely tastes like a Saison, albeit a rather unremarkable one.
Mouthfeel: like the other offerings I've had from Banded, the mouthfeel just falls short. Their beer just feels really flat. The effervescence is very thin and loose, and feels reminiscent of soda left in a glass overnight. Could benefit from more bubbles. This particular offering has this almost waxy feel to it, which is kind of interesting. I do have to dock points for the flatness of it, though.
Overall, this one kind of missed the mark for me. It just feels like a somewhat poorly executed Saison. I love a good Saison, perhaps more than a good IPA, but this just isn't great. It's not terrible by any means, I just wouldn't buy it again or recommend it to a beer aficionado. A bit bitter for my liking, a bit tacky (lager-y) in its pilsner malt, and no real defining characteristics - minus the chamomile, that was a good touch. To be fair, a good Saison is hard to pull off. Maybe they'll get it next time.
