Moveable Type is a farmhouse ale created in the tradition of an old world saison. We began by brewing a provision strength ale, which we then cellared for over a year with Brettanomyces. During the months of cellaring, our saison yeast and the Brettanomyces worked together to create a beer rich in tropical fruit notes, balanced by an underlying earthiness. Bottle conditioned, the beer will continue to evolve. This movement in flavor is something we love about farmhouse ales, like a printer’s type, periodically reset to tell a new story.

Review from BeerAdvocate magazine issue #112 (MAY 2016)

Funk, Balance, Prime, Fun
A good year of conditioning for the Brett to work its magic has turned this Saison into a beer that’s nothing short of epic. The clarity and head are further proof that Foundation had a clear plan for making a beer that people would talk about. Funk, spice, stone fruit, esters, vinous-tartness and a slightly medicinal quality all add to the success here. Dry and earthy with dried apricot and wild herbs in the finish. The attention to detail is through the roof. You really need to hunt some bottles down. [Jason]

A:
Pours a fairly clear gold with a very nice white head. Very good retention; gloppy lacing. (4.25)

S:
Faintly tasty and floral, earthy Brett character and a light, sharp sour twang. (4.25)

T:
Follows the nose. Strong earthy funk with just a suggestion of tartness, and a mix of  nice phenols and a medicinal hope bite in the finish. (4.25)

M:
Puffy, nigh creamy body with active carbonation and a dry finish and the lightest warming alcohol finish. (4.5)

O:
Incredibly good saison that really hit the spot.
It pours gorgeous with a massive white head that you can take bites out of. The aroma and flavor are both nice and earthy with a good mix of funk and a rustic earthy character with a hint of tartness to offset the rest. It's a joy to drink, puffy and dry as a bone. Thanks for the chance to try this, K-dizzle! (4.25)

Poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a nice looking semi-bright yellow with a semi-opaque quality about it. Nice sustaining finger's worth of white foamy head must have held for a good half minute before dissipating to leave some lace running here and there.
The aroma had an absolutely wonderful blend of sweet white grapes rolling over some sweet wheat, sweet grass, a touch of coriander, lemon wedge, Bretty funk, and ended with a very nice sweet to sour and tart grassiness.
The flavor took the prior characters to intertwine very nicely in and out of each other wrapping the sour to the sweet and provide a little bit of acidity and also giving off a sweet vinous quality with an ever so slight toastiness in the background. Mainly a sweet vinous to lemon pulp and Bretty sweet funk in the aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a fair sessionability about it. It's really nice to see how strong the Brett does impart it's sour harshness yet still maintains a good distance in the feel as to provide such a wonderful session. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt on par. Finish was semi-mobile with a simplistic vinous yeasty to funky strolling sort of behavior but really nice.
Overall, what a wonderful sour saison that isn't too sour but just enough to tell you that it is one. Would love to have again. Worth every penny of $6.99 at Winooski Beverage.

Bottled Aug 19, 2015

Pours a nice fizzy fluffy 1 finger head that sticks around for a while, little soapy lacing, crystal clear golden pilsner color.

Nose nice Brett funk, a little barnyard funk, quite fruity, a little lemony citrus and tart, acidic notes, a little toasted blond malt note, an interesting vanilla cake batter note, light saison phenol spices.

Taste brings nice Brett out front, lots of farmhouse and barnyard funks, some tartness, a little fruity lemony and touch fruity ester like note, some toasted grain, a little bready malt, fair acidity, cereal grain and fruity pebbles. Then some bitter spicy hops kick in on the back end, with some peppery phenols, a little booze warmth, and lingering funk on the dry finish.

Mouth is med bod, lots of popping bubbly carbonation, over carbed, some booze warmth.

Overall not bad, Brett does a pretty nice job with funk, not too tart, decent malt base, nice fruity lemony and saison characters, only real knock is the over carbonation and little booze warmth.

2015 Vintage. Picked up at the brewery.

A - Poured into my Duvel tulip a nice crystal clear golden hue with a big rocky two finger white head that fades to leave nice lacing and a very thick blanket.

S - Aromas of very very nice fruity hops, light tropical notes, faint pineapples, light malts. Very nice belgian esters, very faint funk. The hops are really fruity and tropical with some excellent funk brett notes. Really nice vanilla as well.

T - Taste is similar to the nose. Loads of belgian esters, fair amount of brett funk, solid lemons, decent tropical fruits. Loads of funk going on here, mixing nicely with the saison yeast and esters. There is some solid apple tartness but the funk is super pleasant.

M - Mouthfeel is really nice, lightly carbonated, good balance.

O - Overall this was a solid saison. The brett notes here are really, really nice. Excellent hop notes along with brett translates into a very funky fruity beer. Really, really pleasant here.
