an exceptional example of a mexican lager, really delightful to drink on, and something i could drink all day and night, they really should keep this one going, its better than the other lighter styles i have had from river city, and i crave it as i write about it now. we really need to add a mexican lager style category here on BA, this is decidedly not a vienna or american lager, not sure why that still doesnt exist. this beer is pale straw colored, fizzy like a soda, and holds over an inch of white head in the glass, beautiful. its floral in the nose, some saaz or something similar on the hops side appreciable here, and the lightly sweet corn element in the mash is also apparent. i love mexican lager yeast, its always had a little lime thing to me, and thats true in the taste here, herbal and fresh with the hops, maybe a hallertau, sweet and grassy. a touch of a corn chip taste to the flavor, which works here, some minerals in the water that make it super crisp and clean, its dry but has some body for sure, and the lager yeast snaps in the finish. incredibly refreshing, drinkable, and professionally done. always a fun style to crush on when its this well executed. i continue to be impressed with and stoked on river city!
edit: i will leave original scores in place, but this was definitely less good the second time around, years later, the board at the bar says zero calorie, no way, right?! flat to me, less yeast character, and less refined. no judgement this time, but i remember this being way better awhile back...

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
