Crystal clear, rich mahogany in color sitting under a white cap of foam, Elkhorn Lager invites you in for a whiff and a sip of deep, toasty malt flavor and aroma accented by herbal, spicy hop notes. This traditional American lager is brewed from 2-row barley malt, dark crystal malt, chocolate malt and flaked maize building a complex malt base that is easy to get into and fits like a glove. Elkhorn Lager is spiced with a generous portion of Sterling hops delivering peppery, floral sensations. Long, cold aging makes for wicked smooth drinkability making this lager the official lager of drinking.

On-tap at Terminal Bar, Denver, CO
A: The beer is crystal clear amber in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high off white head that left patches of bubbles on the surface and lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of dark malt extracts are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has lots of flavors of dark malt extracts. There are just enough in the way of underlying hops to mask any sweetness.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and clean on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is nice and clean and malty, but seems like it uses a large degree of malt extracts in the ingredients.
Serving type: on-tap

american lager maybe, looks more like a vienna lager to me, clearish glowing deep red, i guess the yeast is more american than we would see in a vienna lager, but the malt tastes like that, and its heavier than most classic amber or red lagers i am used to stateside. i didnt expect it to be malty, nothing on the menu gave that away to me, so i was surprised to see it show up this color. its pretty, bubbly, and heady, and smells only lightly toasted, still oddly crisp for its color, and i get like the minerals in the water with the lager yeast, which i always like, kind of slatey and earthy. the flavor is remarkable dry for the color, and as saturated as that nutty kilned sort of malt character is, it doesnt linger and is remarkably well resolved by the finish. the yeast is almost flavorless, which i think helps keep a beer this color on the refreshing side, a big german profile or something here would seem clunky. great carbonation also helps with that, thats something these guys always seem to have dialed in. not the kind of lager i usually like to drink, but i was surprised and impressed with this little number. well done.

On-draught @ Post S Broadway:
A nicely balanced clean lager with a darker malt backbone than many crowd-pleasers in the category. Hints of chocolate and caramel malt creep in to the otherwise crisp clean 2-row dominant flavour profile.
No adjunct here - just a pleasant medium-bodied all-grain lager with nice depth of flavour.
Better than it needs to be...who knew a fried chicken chain was secretly brewing up some of the finest lagers in Colorado?

L: Slightly Hazy dark red orange color with a small white head and very little lacing.
S: Earthy nutty malt, with a strong malt sweetness, and notes of floral hops.
T: Sweet malt, with a strong floral hop note and a slightly harsh bitterness. Toasted malt, though not as strong as in the aroma.
F:. Nice and crisp, quite high carbonation.
O: A nice smelling beer where the taste doesn't quite live up to the aroma.
