"Backyard Season is beer drinking season. Achtertuin Seizoen is the perfect beer for backyard beer drinking. Inspired by the delicious farmhouse ales of Belgium and Holland, this beer is a fragrant reminder that life is better outside.
Brewed to 5.6% ABV with barley, wheat and rye malts, this hazy golden ale is spiced with three distinct American hop varieties for a floral and fruity aroma. French ale yeast provides delicious fruit and spice notes and brings the beer to a dry and mildly tart refreshing finish.

Look: One finger head that settles as a thin layer, and eventually a lacing around the edge of the glass. The beer is a slightly hazy straw color.
Smell: The yeast used provides most of the aroma. Slightly spicy at first and then it becomes more fruity (couldn't say what type, just fruity), maybe some bubble gum as well. Subdued hop aroma, more grassy than pine like.
Taste: More of the yeast here. Like the aroma, the spice is apparent at first with more of a fruity flavor following the spice. Maybe a hint of a metallic taste. The hop bitterness becomes noticeable well after each sip and after the beer has warmed up a bit. It is more bitter than the classic Belgian Saisons such as Dupont, or Fantome.
Feel: Crisp with a slight dryness. The beer is smooth and feels like it has a higher ABV than 5.6%
Overall: Great Saison. It definitely fits in with the classic Belgian Saisons, but, is just a bit more subdued overall and slightly more bitter. It is best after it has warmed up, however, the hop bitterness is most apparent at that point, which, for me, is slightly too high for the style (still enjoyable). I would happily drink this beer again. It was one of the best Belgian style Saisons, from an American brewer, that I have had.

maybe not the most interesting saison from a yeast standpoint, but this is a great beer, easy drinking as a pint, and a fine companion to the outstanding fried chicken they do here. this went down extremely easy. pale and almost clear yellow, it holds an inch of head in the mason jar its served in at their new restaurant on south broadway. it smells hoppy for the style, almost a saison and a pale ale hybrid, really juicy with a fresh cut citrus note to it, highly pleasing despite the ale yeast being rather basic, almost belgian tasting, and super clean rather than funky or rustic. the flavor is just like the nose, hoppy and fruity, with a white wine yeast element, maybe a french saison strain, but not fermented too warm, this has a crispness we dont usually associate with the style, and a wonderful dry and slightly floral finish. the malt is light, relatively basic, and if there is anything interesting in here, i dont taste it much. i thought this was a perfect warm weather beer but also an excellent food beer. their nashville hot sauce for the chicken is super hot, and this puts the heat out deliciously. better than expected in this style for these guys, a fine pint of beer!
