Appearance: Hazy unfiltered straw gold, with a billowing top of vanilla ice cream coloured head, looks finely rich and creamy. Does mellow out fairly quickly and leaves behind a random pattern of lightly chunky lace.

Aromatics: An almost sour tang muddles the grittiness of the wheat, there is some fragrant green leaf and sour crabapple, the hops almost present themselves as a mix of dry and juicy.

Taste: An under-developed flavour is muted by an over emphasized wateriness, and the yeast and wheat combo don’t actually seem to compliment each other very well. The wheat comes through with a bit of fermented souring and the yeast doesn’t have much of the breadyness I was actually expecting. Oh “bibo” you nailed the description very nicely.

Palate: Probably the only thing that is worth enjoying here is the mouthfeel, it has it’s moments of crispy carbonation and buttery smoothness. There is a slight metallic acidity in the finish, slightly dry and but no aftertaste or lingering bitters to worry about.

Overall: Not impressed at all with the flavour. The look isn’t bad, at little heavy on the head but controllable if you expect it, but it does have a pretty good presence on the palate.

Pairing: not sure I’d bother pairing this with anything. Other than maybe sour gummy candies and an orange soda.

Surprising hops, but huge plastic end ruins it. Too dry as well. Unpleasant. 3.25

330ml bottle, part of the current Steamworks mixed packs available in these parts.

This beer pours a hazy, pale golden yellow colour, with four flabby fingers of puffy, finely foamy, and mildly creamy bone-white head, which leaves a few instances of chunky and splattered lace around the glass as it lazily recedes.

It smells of somewhat phenolic yeast, gritty semi-sweet wheat malt, muddled pome fruit, and very dirty-seeming earthy, leafy, and weedy hop bitters. The taste is some sweet and grainy wheatiness, ethereal sugary breakfast cereal, overripe apples, faintly funky yeast, a hint of neutered black pepper spice, and more gently soiled leafy, earthy, and floral hoppiness.

The carbonation is adequate in its soft and sometimes nurturing frothiness, the body a so-so medium weight, and mostly smooth, just a wee pithiness kicking about, probably from those yeasty no-goodniks. It finishes off-dry, and yeah, still dirty and yeasty.

Well, if it wasn't already clear here, whatever 'farmhouse' yeast strain they employed in this brew kind of crapped all over the place, and then nobody cleaned up after. Not particularly pleasant to drink, unless you're looking for a dirty and simplistic Saison kind of experience.
