December 14th, 2015 - Blue Spruce is going all in on the holiday themed brews with the holiday cheer and this promising pie-in-pint beer. The appearance is sticky as would a pecan pie, with a lacing that clings to the fluted top of the glass like a spider dangling from an aggressive angle, and offers a good molasses scent. The flavor gets a bit sweeter and features some red grape, bubblegum and cotton candy, but sadly, no pecan pie.

nice beer from these guys, one of the best ive had from them actually. calling it poncha pass now i believe, its a brown ale as a base, loaded with a nice rich toasted pecan flavor, more nutty than pie-like for me, which is a plus, although its definitely still sweet, with some brown sugar and candied like praline sort of quality about it. the base brown is near porter in its dark malt side, which i think helps provide a nice base note for the nuts and sweets in here. not quite burnt or smokey, but with some dark chocolate and bitterness to it, bakers cocoa kind of thing. good body for something called a brown, which i think is necessary to hold up all the big extra flavors. its not fakey though, not overly flavored, just nicely accented. with the sweetness though, it might be too much with real pecan pie, it would probably have to sub in for dessert altogether, at least at my table. nice to see these guys doing some outside the box kind of beers lately though, and to see them be so well executed. i would be proud of this if i made it.
