Poured from a Brew Gentlemen 750ml growler into a tulip. Appears as murky light orangeade - lemonade with a white frothy head. Aroma: classic saison with mild funkiness, citrus fruits and confectioner's sugar. Very crisp smelling. Taste: follows the nose, with an added layer of light earthiness and moderate hop bitterness that combine quite pleasantly with tangy citrus and clove. Mouthfeel: moderate and pillowy, with a nice juiciness. Overall: a quite pleasurable drink. I'm not sure I've had a spelt saison before, but I'm assuming the ancient wheat gives it the earthy and light clove flavors. A little different than other saisons, but it sure works, and definitely worth a try.
