I took this as somewhat of a novelty beer they might eventually offer more regularly eventually (this was apparently the first batch). I think it would be a good offering as a minor flagship beer when they get going on a larger scale. One might assume they are getting apples from locally source Virginia orchards, but I did not verify that.
The nose reminds me of "apple chips", or dehydrated apples. The beer itself is pretty straightforward, and does maintain it's beer stature, when it would be so easy to fall into a cider category. The apple is present in the taste, but it does accent it versus overpowering it. Definitely worth a try if it's available.
