Canned 3 weeks ago

L -- Hazy golden orange body with two fingers of white head produced with moderate pour. Great retention and good lacing
S -- Punchy galaxy aroma, lots of pineapple, zesty citrus, mango, green onion, peach, apricot
T -- Largely follows the nose. Nice palt malt sweetness to round things out
F -- Medium mouthfeel, medium carb. A little tingly garlic spiciness from the galaxy on the tail end
O -- Very solid DIPA from Aeronaut, probably the best I've had from them

Appearance: Pours a cloudy honey color with an impressive head that leaves thick patches of lacing

Smell: Dank, tropical fruit with mango dominant backed up by citrus elements

Taste: Tropical fruit forward, with the mango notes building; Clementine orange and pink grapefruit citrus through the middle with a hint of lemon; juicy and moderately bitter finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body; creamy with moderate to high carbonation

Overall: A really nice way to close out year 4; hope to get a chance to try year 5

Little more than a finger of white foam, moderate density, fades swiftly to a solid surface dusting, the lacing nice and sticky, more sheets than streaks. Beer doesn’t get cloudier than this, yellowish orange, completely opaque with no visible carbonation. Herbaceous nose but clean without much dankness, peppery with tropical guava, mango, kiwi fruit scents and bright tangerine spritz, there’s something like wood smoke or matchstick going on, almost close to Genoa salami. Full-bodied, here you get a big dose of cocoa and cereal grains, smooth malty underpinning. The citrus grows in stature, sweet and juicy, tangerine, tangelo to lime. Nothing truly bitter nor dank to disturb the creaminess, the carbonation relatively weak given its thickness. If there’s pineapple, it’s way overripe, much more mango, peach, apricot to apple. Gentle pine notes, just way too juicy to provide space to drier accents. Drinkability is high given the ABV, only issue would be the heaviness. Arguably simple but very satisfying and vividly flavorful. (Canned 12/20/18)

Dated 12/20/18 "4 YEAR #641" on the bottom on the can, 9 days since brewing.

Pours a completely opaque deathly pale golden yellow with a finger of dense off-white head. Nose is ultra tropical yet soft. Notes of sweet blood orange, mango, candied pineapple, juicy fruit gum and a light hint of oatmeal. Taste does not burst with tropicals as the nose but still packs a punch of sweet tropical flavor. Some ruby grapefruit sneaks in on the taste to bring a little bit of tartness to the profile. Just a hint of lingering bitterness yet a surprising dryness. Undetectable ABV but it does lack some body for an 8% brew, landing on the lower side of medium body. Aeronaut keeps concocting amazing beers and this yearly celebration of hops is no hiccup.

Drank on tap at Aeronaut Brewing Company, Somerville, MA
Served in a snifter

Stellar appearance. The cloudy, lemon yellow liquid was topped by a super tight and creamy, finger-tall cap of bright white foam that dissolved faster than expected. Patchy streaks of lacing coated much of the glass.

The aroma was amazing initially but mellowed out pretty quickly. Super weedy and dank. This smelled a lot like a Mosaic hopped beer. Fresh bud came to mind. Tropical fruits were noticeable too. Overripe mango perhaps. Bit of crisp, lemony tartness as well.

The flavor profile was also really crisp and bright. Citrus notes dominated from start to finish. Huge grapefruit presence. Clementine was also noticeable. Fairly tart and tangy. Lemon notes appeared in the center. More grapefruit and grapefruit pith on the back end and in the finish. Notes of pine resin lingered after the swallow.

Outstanding mouthfeel. The liquid contained a super fine yet fairly intense carbonation that turned amazingly creamy, plush and smooth on the palate.

Aeronaut Brewing has a reputation for producing better can artwork than actual beer, but 4 Years with Dr. Nandu was a rather impressive take on a double IPA. I would gladly revisit this if given the opportunity.

Pours an opaque and glossy light gold with just about a finger of white head which dissipates fairly quickly but leaves plenty of lacing smattered around the glass.

Aroma of smooth, creamy tropical fruits from the start; mango, guava, kiwi, orange all meld together, transitioning to creamy pine and subtle, prickly hop resin toward the finish.

Taste brings a good citrus hit, very juicy, that quickly develops in prickliness and ultimately embraces strong notes of raw, herbal hop essence doused in tropical fruits; good depth and nicely structured profile; finds a solid middle ground between juicy and hoppy.

Mouthfeel is smooth, creamy, and the right amount of juiciness to accompany the medium body and balanced carbonation; the dryness on the finish is spectacular; absolutely stellar all-around, from an effortless body to a minimal drain on the palate.

Raw hop presence beneath the well-done tropical elements really makes this one stick out; a distinct, hoppy heart to an inherently juicy NEIPA; good stuff with plenty of it's own character.
