750 ml bottle served cold into a pint glass. Managed to snatch a single for $4.25 CDN.
Appearance - Slightly hazy but a crisp light golden color permeates. Two and a half fingers of fluffy white head, very good retention and lots of effervescent bubbles.
Smell - Don't know if my nostrils are off, but this is slightly skunked. Nonetheless, lots of grainy notes, some light floral aromas mixed and a nice intensity of aromas despite being more subtle in nature. Stone fruits mixed in.
Taste - Initially grainy, lightly toasted bread, transitioning to a floral and subtly fruity flavor with a crisp bit of lemon.
Mouthfeel - fizzy, but not overly so, body is medium-light and finish is off-dry.
Overall - A rather enjoyable cream ale, not a style I generally drink, but this is an above average example. Glad to see Refined Fool distributing more beers and certainly a good summer beer.

750 mL bottle picked up fresh from the brewery; served well-chilled.
Pours a hazy, pale straw-yellow colour, with one finger of bubbly, white-coloured froth produced at the surface. It evaporates rapidly over the next thirty seconds or so, leaving behind a barren landscape in its wake - no lace, no cap, and almost no collar. Like Danny DeVito, this cream ale sure ain't much to look at - but unlike him, it does smell approachable. Very clean, with grainy malts, grassy hops, a faint honey sweetness and several fruity undertones - apple, grape, pear, and maybe even some apricot. This is probably the freshest cream ale I've ever had, and it sure smells that way.
I am actually really enjoying this one, for what it is. The malt backbone provides a clean, crisp, bready sweetness - lightly grainy, with mild touches of honey and brown sugar sweetness. Grassy hops come through next, with hints of lemon zest and some floral notes - a subtle, yet deftly effective counter to the malt-forward first half of the profile. It finishes with a mixture of tempered, grainy sweetness and some dirty, wet-hay-like hop flavours, with both elements fading from the palate within seconds. This is a light-bodied, moderately carbonated ale that drinks very nicely - it's refreshing, crisp, and has a well-balanced flavour profile, which is 90% of what I want from a simple session ale like this.
Final Grade: 3.86, a rather impressive B+. I'd rather have another bottle of Troll Toll than some boy's soul - any day of the week. Day or night, man. I wasn't expecting much from this one, but I think it's actually one of the highest-quality seasonals they've released so far... along with that black IPA from last summer, and the scotch ale from New Year's. If you're going to be stopping by the brewery in the next month or so, this light ale is certainly worth a look - cream ales are obviously not the most exciting style in the world, but this is a well-made one that represents one of Refined Fool's best efforts at producing a sessionable brew that ALL beer drinkers should be able to appreciate - macro swillers and craft dorks alike. In fact, they might want to consider adding this to their stable of year-round brews - because as it stands, that line-up is currently rather lacking in the 'basic fizzy yella beer' department.
