A new take on a classic. We’ve added a new energy to our classic Dark Lager through the addition of Fair Trade, locally roasted nitro cold brew coffee. The coffee’s roast aromas and flavours well complement the Dark Lager's rich malt origin, while Organic Fair Trade Bourbon Vanilla extract and a touch of lactose provide a subtle sweetness and balance, to this flavourful yet highly sessionable beer.

Tallboy from the LCBO; dated Sept 13 2021 and served slightly chilled. This is based on their dark lager, with a few additions.
Pours a deep, clear amber bronze hue, generating half a finger of frothy, light tan-coloured head that melts away in ninety seconds or less. A thin collar and some filmy wisps on the surface are all that is left, with no lace to be seen. Subtle aroma of toasted, bready malts, brown sugar and coffee with cream; sniffing directly from the can, I get a more direct note of coffee grounds, as well as a hint of peas.
A little sweeter than I'd like, but it's pretty good - then again, I'm addicted to coffee, so your mileage may vary. Brown sugar and cream, with bready malts, coffee roastiness and vanilla extract; a little roasty at the back end, but the milk sugar and vanilla come back and dominate the aftertaste, which lingers on the taste buds for a moment or two after each sip. Medium in body, with low carbonation levels that gently tickle the surface of the tongue; feels smooth, slick and a little soft, with good drinkability.
Final Grade: 3.71, a B grade. There are 'sweet' coffee beers, and there are 'roasty/bitter' coffee beers. Side Launch's Coffee Lager definitely falls under the sweet umbrella - the inclusion of milk/lactose makes sense, but I think they overdid it just a tad with the vanilla (a beer additive I am admittedly not all that big on). I'll be picking this up again occasionally, and would encourage other BAs to give it a shot, particularly those who prefer their coffee double double with a shot of vanilla flavouring.

473 ml tallboy from the LCBO for about $3.50.
Appearance - Clear, but very dark brown with nice finger of light off white head. Some lacing left behind too.
Smell - Plenty of coffee, hints of green pepper, and lots of earthy notes too.
Taste- Coffee with a nice hit of caramel and some vanilla sweetness. Nice balance and sufficiently intense flavors.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, light -medium carbonation and light finish.
Overall - Pretty darn solid coffee lager. No complaints and pretty balanced too. One of Side Launch's best in my mind.
