Notes: If you love smoky beers, Bonfire Blonde is as good as it gets, with a rich vein of smoke running from the first sip to the last. This pale gold, medium bodied ale is balanced by Samuel Adams ale yeast and our favorite Mittelfrueh hop for a tart taste and finish.

Bonfire Blonde, 12oz, 5.5%
Tasted 2016, poured from 12oz bottle to glass
L: Light gold color, light head, little lacing
S: Light bread and grass, with a light smoke aroma
T: Caramel, toasted bread, thick malts. Big smoke flavor. Creamy sweet taste underneath. Does it work? Maybe, but the body is so light the smoke is sticking out in a disconcerting way. Finish is smokey with dry bread.
F: Medium body with OK carbonation
O: Interesting to try

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. Pours orange yellow with a small white head. Smells of sweet grain, and very slight vanilla. Tastes of smokey grain, slight banana. Beer is light bodied and easy drinking, but slightly overcarbonated. Overall, an above average beer.

Pale gold colored beer with a slowly fading head. Taste is smoke and that's pretty much it. I don't absolutely hate this but I don't think this style is for me.

12oz bottle into PP glass
BB feb/2017
L- clear gold, white head that slowly recedes,
S- overpowering smell of BBQ smoke, sweet corn-like malt as it warms
T- slightly sweet creamy malt, plenty of fruitiness, with the finish going down in a haze of smoke
F- medium bodied, highly carbonated
Overall this is a surprisingly balanced brew, with the malt, smokiness, and the fruity ale yeast all interplaying beautifully

Part of a winter sampler 12-pack. Poured in to a pint glass.

Pours a shiny gold color, clear with a thin white head.

Smell is smoky, like a smoked salmon.

Taste is also smokey, a liquid smoke flavor, with a little fruity hop bitterness on the finish.

Mouthfeel is medium, a little heavy for a blonde ale IMO, with a dry smokey finish.

Overall, not a beer I would have again.

12 oz bottle. Pours a clear gold color with minimal, short-lived head and lacing. Very subtle smoky aroma. Taste of smokey lemons, finish of smoked hops. Not my thing.

1/14/17...pours clear medium dark gold with foamy white lid. Citrussy nose, but with a woodsy edge. Very faint. Lighter crisp blonde ale malt with a smoky streak running through. Think rauch-lite. Creamy mouthfeel. Interesting blend.

Appearance: Clean golden, with fine off-white suds and only slight lace.

Aroma: Smoky malts, with some hops. Subtle but appealing.

Taste: Nice smoky flavor but light in body. Carbonation here seems high but this is a nicely drinkable and enjoyable smoked ale.

Horrible! Who wants to drink liquid smoke? I thought IPA's were bad but this is in a league by itself. Whoever made this an 82 had no tastebuds. I would recommend this to NO ONE.

Pours clear, blonde in color with 1/3 inch head. Taste is a good dose of smoke over pilsener malt. I get a bunch of grass as well as light grain and slight toasted malt. Light bodied, smoky, with moderate carbonation. Makes for an excellent intro to smoked beers. A good, sessionable smoke beer. I would pick up another variety pack with this in there.

I am closing in on closing out the Samuel Adams portion of the Bottle Backlog here at Chez Woody. I saved this one towards the end since a) I like smoked/smoky beers & b) it segues nicely into the follow-up beer.

From the bottle: "If you love smoky beers, Bonfire Blonde is as good as it gets, with a rich vein of smoke running from the first sip to the last. This pale gold, medium bodied ale is balanced by Samuel Adams ale yeast and our favorite Mittelfrueh hop for a tart taste and finish. Cheers! [undersigned] Jim Koch".

Ah, the anticipation could not have been greater & yet, I showed amazing restraint following the Pop! of the cap, performing only the gentlest of pours. I got a brief two fingers of dense, bone-white foam before it fade from existence. Color was Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 -5) with NE-quality clarity, but just like vermin, the Gelt Gang of Croesus, Mammon & Midas was scared off by the smokiness, leaving it all to me. Mine, all mine! Nose was fantastic! It had that smoky sweetness of Lebanon (PA) Sweet Bologna and my mouth watered & my heart palpitated in anticipation of this one. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was spot-on with a smoky, salty-sweet tang, just as the label had promised! I know that a lot of people default to bacon as to the taste, but it is an imprecise analogy. I am sticking with Sweet Lebanon Bologna and if you have a hankerin' for a hunka cheese, this beer and some of it would be a perfect trifecta! How to score some: http://www.seltzerslebanon.com/ Finish was semi-dry, smoky, tangy, sweet-ish, slightly salty & man, could I drink another of these! Again, I realize that Smoked Beers are not everybody's bag, but this definitely scratched an itch for me.

L -- Clear straw yellow with minimal quickly dissipating head and lacing
S -- Smokey malts, grains, biscuit, and pine
T -- Similar to aroma. Low bitterness complements the non overpowering smokey flavors well
F -- Very mild palette that straddles the line between refreshing and watery
O -- Great autumnal pale ale for those looking for something other than IPAs

Bottle from Mike. thanks for the opportunity!
Brilliantly clear deep yellow color with a small quickly dissipating bubbly white head. Bready crackery pilsner maltiness with just a bit too much campfire smokiness imho. Decent but not my cup of tea.

12 oz bottle, drank straight from the bottle. It was a fitting beer, drank outdoors with a bonfire. I enjoy smoky beers, so this was a solid offering from Sam Adams. Pleasant smokiness up front and crisp finish.

Pours a clear, gold color. 1/3 inch head of an off-white color. Good retention and decent lacing. Smells of strong smoke, hint of sweet malt, slight pale malt, and a hint of hops. Fits the style of a Smoked Beer. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. There is also a noticeable bitterness. Tastes of strong smoke, pale malt, slight hops, hint of pine, and wheat. Overall, smoke and wheat sharpness is disappointing, but the strength of smoke in aroma and body is pleasant.

I picked up a bottle of Samuel Adams Bonfire Blonde in their fall variety pack. It's been a while since I'e had a smoked beer and I'm in the mood for one tonight, so lets see how it goes. 2016 Vintage. Poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a imperial pint glass.

A= The label looks nice, it goes well with the name and it's a little eye catching. It poured a golden orange color that took on more of a yellow color when held to the light with a fingers worth of creamy off white head that died down to a thin ring that eventually faded away and it left some patchy rings of lacing behind. This is a good looking beer, I have no complaints.

S- The aroma starts off with a higher amount of medium sweetness with a smokey aroma being the first to show, it has a little bit of a smoked meat aroma and it's followed by some sweet malts which impart some more sweetness. Up next comes the malts which impart some grainy, pale malt and bready aromas followed by a little bit of doughy yeast and little more smokey aromas coming through towards the end. This beer has a pretty nice aroma, the smoke shows up nicely and it's how I expected it to be.

T- The taste seems to be similar to the aroma and it starts off with a slightly higher amount of medium sweetness with the smoke being the first to show up and it shows up just as much as it did in the aroma and it imparts that same light smoked meat aspect. Up next comes the malts which impart all the same malty aspect that they did in the aroma and there's a little bit doughy yeast showing up in background. On the finish there's a light amount of bitterness with some more sweetness and it has a smokey and slightly grainy aftertaste. This is nice tasting beer, it's pretty solid for the style and the balance is nice.

M- Fairly smooth, a little crisp, a little on the sweet side, on the light side of being medium bodied with a medium amount of carbonation. The mouthfeel is pretty nice and it works well with this beer.

Overall I thought this was a nice beer and solid example. it had pretty much all the aspects that I look for in the style, but if it had a little more complexity I would like it a little more. This beer had nice drinkability, I could drink a couple in the fall time, but that would be my limit because it would start to wear on me if I have more than that. What I like the most about this beer is the appearance and aroma, those are the highlights to me. What I like the least about this beer is the complexity, I wish it had little more going on in the taste. I might buy this beer on it's own and I wouldn't turn one down. I would recommend it for anyone looking for a solid smoked blonde ale. All in all I liked this beer, but I didn't love it and I think if it had a little more complexity it would be pretty good beer. It's not a favorite Sam Adams beer and it's a little above average for the style. Solid job guys, but with a little more work this could be very nice.

Poured out of a 12 oz. bottle into my Sam Adams The Perfect Pint glass. This beer pours a clear light to medium golden color with many streams of little bubbles rapidly and continuously rising to the beer's surface. Has a solid, white head that's initially an inch thick when first poured that settles to a solid 2/3 of an inch thick and good lacing. Aromas of lightly toasted and smoked, biscuity, somewhat sweet caramel malt sweetness with herbal hints of rye spice and a bit of honey. Has a somewhat smokey, just slightly toasted and certainly not roasted, somewhat caramel sweet, biscuity, crackery, malt flavor along with a bit of peppery rye along with an herbal, slightly grassy, earthiness. Not really a discernible hop presence. An interesting and rather enjoyable flavor profile here for sure. Has a crisp, yes also smooth, medium bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation and a clean finish. An excellent beer all around here indeed!

This beer is disgusting. It tastes like eating an old pulled pork sandwich. It was extremely hard to drink and the fake smoke flavor is overwhelming. Overall, not an enjoyable beer. I generally enjoy most of what Sam Adams puts out, but this is by far the worst I've ever tasted.

Clear yellow-gold body, thin eggshell head with wisps of lace. Nose is barbecue and adjunct-lager notes; smoke and slight sweet burnt brown sugar, light pilsner malt and corn. Leans on the smoke towards the beginning and fades to the malt once it's gone. Taste is heavy with smoke flavor, but also contains those base notes: corn, light malt, mild spicy bitterness. I dunno, it brings the smokiness, which I love, but it doesn't have the right kind of support. Body is light-medium, decent liveliness from the carbonation.
Like I said, brings the smoke, heavy handed and pungent, but doesn't have the supporting notes that make for a great beer. Something is too thin, and too unbalanced. Still, it can hit that smokey note if you got the itch.

I'm actually burning some leaves and deadwood today so I decided to grab this one out of the fridge to give it a try.

Faintly smoky aromas.... not much else to speak of..

Reminds me of an over the counter bacon. Not at all unpleasant but it's not Bentons.... there is definitely a smoked meat aspect to this beer. That being said, I would not classify this as a can't pass up beer. Glad I was able to try this but I would definitely not buy this beer in and of itself.

It is fairly thin which seems to hurt this a little bit. If it were thicker, I might enjoy this better.

Presentation: 12 oz bottle freshness notched for January poured into a pint glass.

Look: Pale gold topped by a white two finger head which quickly disintegrates.

Smell: Thin trail of smoke.

Taste: Well balanced, nice vein of smoke runs through out but is not overpowering.

Feel: Thin-ish, light carbonation, slightly dry. Very easy to drink.

Overall: A very solid beer. Would definitely buy a six pack if it were available.

L: yup its yellow and clear
S: Whoa Nelly! this thing has a big smokey smell thing smoked meats or sure campfire.
F: yeah the average carbonation nothing really stands out on mouth feel.
T: BIg smokey flavor combined with a tart hop finish with lingering smoke flavor. Reminds me of heavily smoked meats or smoked bacon. Not all bad but it will assault you with its big smokey flavor.
O: If you love all things smoked this is for you. If not look else where. Drinkable for me but I have had experience with smoked flavored beverages and how strong the flavor can get. I would not want a sixer but it is interesting test for the uninitiated. Try it worst case you learn something about yourself.

Part of a variety 12-pack Safeway $13.99
Clear golden color
Smell of smoke
Light-medium mouthfeel
Medium carbonation
The smoke taste is present and basically reminds me of drink a beer downwind from a fire. Other than the smoke taste not much else.
Overall just ok. It does deliver on the bonfire experience, but doesn't add anything beyond that. Would not drink again.
