Poured from the bottle into my Chimay goblet. I poured a glass of this to honor the greatest college football coach ever. Rest in peace Joepa.
Appearance: Pours a very cloudy dark amber. The beer has a red hue to it. There is no head at all.
Smell: Very sweet and smooth with some alcohol burn at the end. I'm picking up dark fruit, desert wine, caramel, and some vanilla. Definitely smells more like a very nice bottle of liquor.
Taste: Just phenomenal. This is much smoother than newer batches. Definitely picking up some sherry/port. The wood from the barrels is there along with caramel and vanilla. The finish is hot, but very smooth considering the abv.
Mouthfeel: The body is on the thick side with just a tingle from the alcohol. The finish is quite dry.
Overall: This is a really nice beer. It ages with the best of them. I'll enjoy it until my bottle runs out and then I'm sure I won't see this one again.

2002 Utopias. Thanks to Arthur for the chance to try this.
Viscous, leggy amber with slight haze. Completely still.
Layers of maple syrup, butterscotch, sherry, wood, spiciness. Some nice oxidation here, and very reigned-in alcohol.
Sweet without ever coming off as cloying. Sherry oxidation, slight nuttiness, fruit preserves, oak, maple syrup. Full, syrupy body. Completely still. Lingering sweet finish with a bit of oak and heat. As great as this is, I think the newer batches of Utopias are slightly better.
