Brewed in conjunction with Woods Beer Co.
Boston Tea Party Saison is a bi-coastal twist on the classic Belgian style, combining Woods's yerba mate-infused saison with Sam Adams’ wild yeast blend, Kosmic Mother Funk. Mate's earthy spice plays on the rippling, fruity haze of KMF's funky bacteria, and gives a signature snap to the amber saison's traditional dry finish.

12oz. bottle served in my CL tulip. Pours a dull, burnt orange with a tight, one-inch, cream-colored head and hazy clarity. A dense cluster of tiny bubbles coalesces around the base of the glass. Pleasant nose - grains of paradise, followed by light earthy and grassy notes. Taste expresses a lemony quality, bitter herbal notes and something akin to a lactose sweetness. Mouthfeel is light-medium in body with an even carbonation and a mild acidity. Overall, decent but not my cup of tea (no pun intended) - a little on the heavy side and not enough funk.

Poured cold into tulip glass from 12-ounce bottle. Very cloudy translucent light caramel sauce-colored body, with a white two-finger head that left some sticky lacing. The aromas and flavors really came alive as this reached cellar temperature. Peppery spices, coriander, clove, banana, yeast funk, and tart lemon, with the tea providing a nice complement as well as a tannic and astringent finish. This is on the high end of the ABV range for the style, so there is a good amount of alcohol heat at cellar temperature. This is very well crafted, with the various elements combining for a delicious and drinkable brew. Nicely done!
